Sheogorath, Prince of Madness

Sheogorath is the Daedric Prince of Madness and ruler of the Shivering Isles. He tasks the player with stopping the Daedric Prince of Order Jyggalag from invading the Isles, an event known as the Greymarch. It is discovered only after you have successfully stopped the Greymarch that Sheogorath is not Sheogorath at all, but is in fact Jyggalag, who was cursed by his fellow Daedric kin to forever become the Prince of Madness. Every era, Jyggalag was allowed to be restored to his true form and invade his own realm, destroying the madness that his alter ego had created. This curse is upon him until he can find some way of breaking the cycle, and luckily for him, his alternate personality didn't wish to continue it either. After defeating Jyggalag, he explains all of this to you, and the reason behind it was simply that the other princes were frustrated or even jealous of the order he maintained. You find out that it has always been Sheogorath's plan (Jyggalag's as well) that you become the new Sheogorath, and with the "destruction" of Jyggalag and the end of the Greymarch, you are appointed new ruler of the Shivering Isles, and Prince Sheogorath of Madness. Jyggalag is then returned to the waters of Oblivion to be free. So at this point in the game the correct definition of Sheogorath is you, the player. You are now the first Mortal to be titled with being a Daedric prince. Keep in mind though, even the Prince of Madness has responsibilities, as Haskill will remind you.

[edit] Madness Quotes

  • "Ta. Come visit again! Or I'll pluck out your eyes!"
  • "What is important is getting to Xedilian. Quickly. Before I get bored. You wouldn't like me when I'm bored."
  • "Now? You'll need the respect of My citizens. They'll need a leader, someone to look up to when I'm gone. They're the backbone of any great land. Except where the backbone is an actual backbone. Ever been to Malacath's realm...? Nasty stuff. But, back to the business at hand."
  • "They're getting more active every day. Not a good sign. You know what would be a good sign? "Free Sweetrolls!" Who wouldn't like that?"
  • "Why not? Something has to work. Once, I dug a pit and filled it with clouds. Or was it clowns? Doesn't matter. It didn't slow him down. To be honest, it wasn't the best idea. And it really began to smell. Must have been clowns. Clouds don't smell bad. They taste of butter! And tears."
  • "So, which is it? What will it be? Mania? Dementia? The suspense is killing me. Or you, if I have to keep waiting."
  • "You've probably figured that out by now. Let's hope so. Or we're in real trouble... and out come the intestines. And I skip rope with them!"
  • "Cat's out of the bag on that one, isn't it? Who puts cats in bags, anyway? Cats hate bags."
  • "Wonderful! Time for a celebration... Cheese for everyone! Wait, Scratch that. Cheese for no one. That can be just as much of a celebration, if you don't like cheese. True? You've run a maze like a good little rat, but no cheese for you yet. Well, maybe a little."
  • "Well, well. So you've experienced both shades of madness. Wonderful. You seemed fulfilled. Full of fill. Bursting at the seams. Seamless."
  • "Another Daedric Prince. Not a nice one. I don't think ANY of the other Princes like him, actually. I mean, Malacath is more popular at parties. And Malacath is NOT popular at parties."
  • "A little busy here! I'm trying to decide what to have for dinner. Oh, how I love eating. One of my favorite things to do. Talk to Haskill if you need more information. He's got more brains than a brain pie. Oh... Brain pie! Perfect! Care to donate?"
  • [When asking who Jyggalag is] "The Daedric Prince of Order! Or biscuits... No. Order. And not in the good way. Bleak. Colorless. Dead. Boring, boring, boring."

[edit] Notes

  • If for any reason you want to attack Sheogorath, you'll find he has a spell that teleports you straight to Execution Point. To be more precise, he teleports you several thousand feet above Execution Point. Gravity takes you the rest of the way there. There is no way to survive this fall, even with god mode, because the death is scripted.
    • For some PC players, the game will crash when they are teleported.[verification needed — see talk page]
  • Sheogorath has 1 lettuce and 1 yarn in his inventory: a reference to his daedric quest in Cyrodiil.
  • Sheogorath is voiced by Wes Johnson.
  • At level 254, he is the highest leveled NPC in the game.
  • You are unable to pickpocket Sheogorath.
