Muurine

Muurine is an Altmer mage living with her Uncle Leo in Crucible, New Sheoth. She is manically obsessed with conspiracies and tries hard to find a pattern in everything. She shares her wild theories with Uncle Leo, who happens to be a zombie living on the second floor of her house. Incidentally, she herself is part of a major conspiracy in and around Crucible, and you will have to sort things out during the quest The Lady of Paranoia.

When she is not strolling around town asking her fellow townsfolk to share their secrets, she can be found in her big mansion in the center of Crucible. She sleeps on the second floor every night between midnight and 7am and always starts the day with three hours of wandering on the ground floor. She leaves at 10am, enters the Sacellum Arden-Sul, and prays for two hours. Between noon and 5pm she can once again be found on the ground floor of her house, before she heads down to Sickly Bernice's Taphouse at 5pm for a three-hour dinner. At 8pm, she heads up onto the rooftop above Bernice's and meets up with the other members of the duelists for two hours of drinking and fighting: on Tirdas, she will fight Caldana Monrius, and on Fredas, she will fight Caldana, Ushnar gro-Shadborgob and Cutter. She always heads back home and spends two hours on the ground floor before going to bed at midnight. During the related quests stage 120, Muurine will relocate to the torture chamber in the House of Dementia for a final showdown with Lady Syl.

She wears the, for Dementia clothing, atypical and prestigious red finery and carries a bottle of ale, the special duelist's key along with her own house key and the Liturgy of the Duelists. Her weapon of choice is a club. She is one of the few NPCs without any gold in her inventory.

When you meet her for the first time, she will instantly try to squeeze some gossip out of you: "I'm Muurine. If you have any secrets, I'm the one to tell. I won't share them with anyone but my family. Unless they’re good ones, that is." Her "family" seems to be the walking zombie in her bedroom, and on subsequent meetings, she will say: "Hello there. I just finished a lovely conversation with Uncle Leo; it seems he's not feeling well today. Lost an arm." When you finally approach her during the related quest, she will not shy away from the truth: "I see you've done quite a bit of work to track me down. Yes, I orchestrated it. Syl deserves to die a painful death for turning on all of us, and consorting with our enemies. Go ahead, do what you will. Nothing matters now." And she will pity you: "Haven't you got what you need? Shouldn't you be running off to tattle like a good little servant?"

If Muurine is killed and her tombstone in New Sheoth Graveyard is activated, it will read: Muurine rests with the knowledge that her death provides much gossip.

At different stages in the Main Quest, Muurine will share different rumors with you and other NPCs:

  • I hear there's someone trying to get into the Shivering Isles. It's all part of a plot to overthrow the Realm. You'll see.
  • The Gatekeeper's been killed, you know. Uncle Leo is most distressed, but I'm thrilled. Can't wait to find out who's behind it.
  • So the Resonator is working. But who fixed it? Why was it broken in the first place? Why is no one asking these questions?
  • Thadon had outside help getting his Chalice back. Something sneaky going on there.

The Construction Set also lists the following rumors, although Muurine will never get a chance to use them:

  • I had just been telling Uncle Leo that something big was coming, and now this conspiracy. And they thought me part of it!
  • My whole family is happy about the Torch being lit. Unless it's all part of some bit plot.
  • A replacement for the Duchess of Dementia could put the wrong people in positions of power, if you get my drift.
  • I heard Thadon is dead. Nothing wrong with that.
  • It's all tied together, I'm telling you. The Fringe, the weather we've been having, the price of cheese... it's all connected!
  • There's a new Gatekeeper guarding the Realm. Uncle Leo thinks it's too little, too late, but I disagree.
  • Who would want an entire army destroyed, and for what purpose? I know there's something big going on.
  • I know what the next sign is. You'll see it, mark my words. All efforts to save us will fail, because that's how this will all end.
  • I suspect this whole Greymarch fiasco is a cover-up for something more sinister. I can't prove it just yet, though.

[edit] Bugs

  • Muurine has the same bug as the other members of the Duelists and can often be found to be carrying huge amounts of weaponry; in her case, clubs.
