Rundi lying dead in the snow

Rundi is a dead Nord found near an altar at an unmarked location on a cliff east-southeast of Winterhold.

Frost runes surround the circular stone plinth on which Rundi lies. There are some items on the altar itself, such as Rundi's dagger, a few alchemy ingredients, a soul gem, and a copy of the Alchemy skill book Mannimarco, King of Worms. You can find a set of blue mage robes and a pair of boots on Rundi's corpse.

Rundi and his twin brother Borvir are mentioned by Phinis Gestor as missing apprentices from Winterhold: "And then there's Borvir and Rundi. Twins, though they rarely agreed on anything. Those two boys were obsessed with mead. Convinced they could concoct something to compete with Honningbrew. Something about using frost magic to chill the mead for a certain period of time. I felt it was a waste, but the Arch-Mage let them proceed.".

Unused Dialogue[edit]

Despite always appearing dead in the final game, Rundi has leftover dialogue for the unfinished quest Supply Line still tied to him. In this scenario, you would find him and his brother Borvir alive at Frost River Farm, their own meadery in Hjaalmarch.

How's the meadery working out?
"It's tough, with just the two of us. There's hardly ever time to make the occasional delivery to the taverns of Skyrim. We could use a pair of hands and a strong back. There'd be a little coin in it for you."
I can certainly help.
"That'd be great. There's a case of our soon-to-be famous mead that needs to get to Winterhold. Get it there, and you can keep the delivery fee."

After the first delivery, you could keep returning to Rundi for radiant delivery quests:

Need me to deliver any more mead?
"Indeed I do."

He would then mention one of three possible delivery locations:

"I need you to take a case of mead to the Frozen Hearth in Winterhold. The delivery fee is yours to keep."
"Another case of mead needs to find its way to the Bannered Mare in Whiterun. The delivery fee is yours to keep."
"Candlehearth Hall is running low on our famous mead. Can you drop off this case? The gold is yours, as always."

Notes[edit]

  • Rundi was to be included in two unfinished quests. In the first, The Missing Apprentices, you are tasked with finding him and the three other missing apprentices. After finding him dead, you could've brought his unique dagger back to Phinis Gestor, who would say:
I found this. It's Rundi's, isn't it?
"It certainly is. Was, I suppose. He would never have willingly parted with it. What a shame."
  • In the second quest, Supply Line, he and his twin brother would have opened up a popular meadery in Hjaalmarch, called Frost River Farm. You would be tasked with bringing their mead to taverns in either Whiterun, Winterhold, or Windhelm. It's clear that the two unused quests were never meant to be present in the same iteration of Skyrim, with The Missing Apprentices being the more finalized of the two.
  • Similar to Borvir, Rundi still has a complete AI schedule present.

Bugs[edit]

  • Rundi's body may despawn or glitch through the ground.
  • Rundi's body provides infinite feedings for werewolves, but will not advance Dawnguard's werewolf perk XP.
  • Rundi's body may appear without his clothes, carrying them in his inventory.
