Bramblebreach is a large settlement found just south of the city of Marbruk, in the province of Valenwood. The town acquired its name a long time ago when a massive wall of bramble grew around the Wilderking Court region and the site was the only opening; a breach in the bramble. It is the home of the eponymous Bramblebreach Clan, an ancient tribe of Bosmer that are unequivocally loyal to the Wilderking.[1][2]

History[edit]

The Wilderking

The Wilderking created Bramblebreach and its tree pods as a home for his Bosmer followers, the clan's ancestors. The site was originally an opening through a wall of bramble created to protect the region from an ongoing war.[1] While the Wilderking had his stone sentinels to guard his domain,[3] the original Bramblebreach tribe became his first followers and friends. From then on, he always provided for them and even grew the tree-pods that housed them.[1][4]

The Wilderking also gave them Lurcher guardians to protect the village. Seeds from the Shimmering Kollopi Tree can summon them from the ground[5] but while their husks are all made of the local flora, crafters imbued them with elemental powers using dew bugs, thunderbug bellies, and wasp hive seeds.[6] Members of this tribe that have since passed away become ancestor spirits of the land known as Elders of Bramblebreach.[4][7]

Over the years, the Bramblebreach Clan and most of Greenshade remained an otherwise wild part of Valenwood that has stayed true to the Green. Members of the Vinedusk Rangers often avoid this part of the forest and when the Blacksap Rebellion took place in the mid-Second Era, the Bramblebreach Clan showed support to Camoran Gelthior's crusade and did not acknowledge Aeradan Camoran's claim to the throne.[2] In 2E 582, two members of the Veiled Heritance, Aranias and her guardian, Andur approached the Treethane of Bramblebreach, Niriel with a request to meet the Wilderking. When they were denied, however, they continued their plan to deal with the spirit.[8]

At around the same time, the Aldmeri Dominion had trouble recruiting this portion of Valenwood and Battlereeve Urcelmo sent the Khajiit soldier Hazazi to negotiate with them. The clan, however, did nothing but mock him and explained that they only listen to the Wilderking, who had no interest in the Dominion.[2] Razum-dar, an Eye of the Queen sent an Agent of the Dominion to help Hazazi and recruit the Bramblebreach Clan. They talked with Treethane Niriel who offered a means to communicate with the Wilderking but only if they curbed the Lhurgash Clan of Wood Orcs, who at the time were constantly harassing them. Using the seeds from the Shimmering Kollopi Tree, the Agent summoned Lurcher guardians in the middle of the Wood Orcish camp and routed them out.[9]

Keeping her promise, the Treethane gave them the means to talk with the Wilderking and guided them to the petitioning stone just south of town. There they spoke with the Wilderking who revealed that both the Agent and the aforementioned Aranias were present to fulfill a greater purpose. The spirit sent the Agent to visit the spinner and gatekeeper Maruin to learn more about her past.[10]
