Shaleez is hiding in the Flooded Mine.

[edit] Quick Walkthrough

  1. Retrieve the next contract from beneath the Old Bridge.
  2. Go to the Flooded Mine, and find your way to Shaleez.
  3. Deal with her, then make your way to the next drop near the entrance to Fort Redman.

[edit] Detailed Walkthrough

[edit] Target

Shaleez, a psychopathic killer and your new target, is hiding in the Flooded Mine just north of Bravil. The cave, as you may have guessed, is almost completely flooded. However, there are plenty of air gaps and you will not necessarily need any sort of Water Breathing ability.

[edit] Make the Kill

Shaleez might be swimming around the cave; if she sees you, she will attack on sight. The problem is that she will attack with an enchanted sword, which may be powerful enough to kill you very quickly. The exact sword is randomly determined; she will be carrying one non-enchanted shortsword, one enchanted shortsword, and one enchanted longsword (unless you do the quest at levels 1 or 2, in which case she will only have the non-enchanted shortsword). This problem is made worse by the fact that underwater fighting is very difficult compared to normal fighting. Some alternative ways to kill her would be:

  • Shadowmere: Simply flee the cave. Shaleez will follow you, and upon exiting the cave, she will begin to attack Shadowmere. With her back to you, you should be able to kill her long before she knocks Shadowmere unconscious. Her sword may deal permanent damage to Shadowmere's attributes, however, so be ready with restoration magic to heal any injuries.
  • Tooth-in-the-Sea: The Argonian Tooth-in-the-Sea camps nearby by the shore and may come to help you; he is pretty powerful. Make sure he doesn't die as Tooth-in-the-Sea is an important but NOT essential character, being the master trainer in Alteration.
  • Guards: Another possibility is to flee to the city gates of Bravil and let the guards do your dirty work.
  • Sneaky: Shaleez goes to sleep at around 10pm. Make sure you're sneaking when you're coming out of the water so you don't wake her. Then you can either knife her in the back or steal her swords before fighting face to face. However, she wakes up at 5 am.
  • Poisoned Apple: If you have one of the poisoned apples (there is a locked barrel containing 10 in Lucien Lachance's room at Fort Farragut) it can be reverse-pickpocketed onto Shaleez - while she is sleeping is a good time - she will eat it as she eats at around 6am. Note that you will have to wait around for her to wake up and eat though, which could take a while.
  • Surrender and Attack: If you find Shaleez sleeping, sneak up on her and attack her when she is sleeping. Then, when she gets up, put up your shield and activate her to surrender. She will go back to sleep and you will be able to attack her again and do a critical hit. Note: You can only surrender around 3 to 4 times before she will continue to attack you.

[edit] Notes

  • It helps some people see in water to adjust brightness under options in the menu. Night-eye and Light spells may also help.
  • If you are having trouble with running out of air, you can purchase a spell or potion or obtain an item with a Water Breathing enchantment. Argonians have water breathing as a permanent effect, so water breathing enchantments are not necessary for them.
  • Shaleez is a good source of Argonian blood for the Vampire Cure quest. You can use a Poison Apple to weaken her, and right before she is about to die perform a sneak attack with the Enchanted Dagger to capture the blood and finish her off. This is an easy way to complete two quests at once.

Final Justice (Dark13Justice)
Stage Finishes Quest Journal Entry
10 I have picked up my next contract from the dead drop beneath the Old Bridge. I have been ordered to kill an Argonian hunter named Shaleez, who is holed up in the Flooded Mine. She is a wanted psychopath, so I should be cautious.
20 Shaleez is dead. I must pick up my reward and next contract at the dead drop located in the coffin just outside the ruins of Fort Redman.
100 Finishes quest I have picked up my reward and received my next contract.
Notes
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in random order.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  • On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage Dark13Justice stage. Where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages. See SetStage for more information.
