Zthenganaz is a buried Dwemer ruin, located in the Icy Shore of the Wrothgarian mountains, south of Farrun.[1]

According to Thelwe Ghelein, it was founded by one of the clans that splintered from the Rourken after they left Vvardenfell.[2] It was defended by an advanced type of Dwarven Centurion called Ztheng Guardian.[3][4] A dwarven Artifact called the Eye of Zthenganaz, a large gemstone mounted in a gear-like wheel, was, according to legend, crafted by the Dwarves to spy on the Orc strongholds of the early First Era.[5]

Zthenganaz interior

By the Second Era, the ruins of Zthenganaz were mostly caught in ice.[1] In 2E 582, when King Kurog called for experts from all over Tamriel to help rebuild the orc nation of Orsinium, dunmer scholar Raynor Vanos went on a mission to find and explore Zthenganaz.[3] While he was searching for the ruin with his sister Kireth, she fell in a hole leading directly into it. Fortunately, he was able to recruit an adventurer passing by to rescue his sister. While in the ruin, Kireth and the adventurer retrieved a power core from a Ztheng Guardian [6]. Raynor built a device to control Dwarven Automatons with the core, though the device did not work as expected.[7] Raynor then sent the adventurer back in the ruin to acquire additonnal data on the constructs and destroy the Ztheng Guardian.[8]

Notes[edit]

  • The fell monstrosity, that is the Cursebound Kagouti inspired Maestro Efnort of the Bards College to write the poem "The Red-Eyed Terror of Zthenganaz."[9]
  • In early drafts, this location was spelled Zthgnthaz, which was intended to be the Dwemeris acronym for "time-wizard".[10]
