The Bloodroot Forge
"The Forge is my heart!" —Stoneheart the Heartstone of the Dreadhorn Clan[1]

Stoneheart the Heartstone was one of the Blood-Forged Reachman of the Dreadhorn Clan. He was a master conjurer known for his affinity and mastery of flame-based and earth-shaping magic, as well as his ability to command numerous Stone Atronachs at once.[1] He was also one of the Bloodforge Smiths, the craftsmen who worked the legendary Bloodroot Forge, and a devout follower of Hircine, the Daedric Prince of the Hunt.[2][3]

History[edit]

Stone Atronach
The Blood-Forged Ritual

Little is known about the past of the Stoneheart, except for his clan allegiance. Following Gherig Bullblood the clan traveled to Craglorn in Hammerfell and discovered Hircine's Boon, the ancient Nedic site known as the Bloodroot Forge, and began to work it. Any settlers near the area were either sacrificed or enslaved and forced to mine nirncrux to feed the forge. They managed to use the secrets of the forge to craft weapons and armor of great durability and power.[4][5]

Both he and the clan patriarch, Gherig penned instructions for their clansmen for crafting their arms and armor and outlined the sacred schema that defined the trappings of the Bloodforge Smiths, and the Dreadhorn clansmen as a whole.[2][6][3]

Stoneheart the Heartstone became the Blood-Forged, a being that is an amalgamation of blood, nirncrux, and iron.[1][7][8] He believed that the Bloodroot Forge was the key to the Reachmen's victory over the Nords and to their domination of the land.

Stoneheart, together with his clan patriarch, Gherig Bullblood oversaw the process of the creation of powerful weapons. The rising threat caused by the emboldened Reachfolk of the Dreadhorn clan grabbed the attention of the Undaunted mercenaries, which led to an assault on the forge. Stoneheart, together with his fellow clan members and allies opposed the Undaunted but ultimately were defeated. Stoneheart fought the mercenaries personally wielding his powerful fire and earth magic but was overwhelmed by the might of the mercenaries. Upon his death, he acknowledged his opponents as worthy prey.[1][9][10]

Notes[edit]

  • Stoneheart was also a clan name among Nords of Cragwallow. Any connection between Stoneheart the Heartstone and the Nords bearing this name is unknown.[11][12]
