Daggerfall:Banks
The UESPWiki – Your source for The Elder Scrolls since 1995
A Bank is a place where you can deposit gold and do other financial transactions. Every region in the Iliac Bay has its own bank.
[edit] Services
- Account: Unlike subsequent Elder Scrolls game, gold in Daggerfall is not weightless. The amount you can carry at one time is limited by your strength. Therefore it is necessary to visit banks periodically to deposit the gold that you have accumulated during your adventures. The account is free, but banks from different regions are not connected with each other. That means, for example, you cannot access your account at the Bank of Daggerfall when you are in Sentinel.
- Letter of Credit: If you want to transfer gold from one region to another or if you need more gold that you can carry (for example, for a Daedra Summoning), you need to obtain a letter of credit. The letter's value is defined when it is certified at a Bank. The administrative charge for certification is equal to 11% of the letter's value. Therefore, if you request a 100,000 gold letter, 111,000 gold will be deducted from your bank account (100,000 for the face value, and 11,000 administrative fee). A Letter of Credit is accepted as means of payment in nearly all situations and it weights only 0.25 kg. Some exceptions exist, however; for example, Taverns will only accept cash, not letters of credit.
- Loan: You can borrow a considerable amount of gold, up to a maximum of 1,100,000 gold, from a bank, without assurances. You can have only one loan from a region's bank at any time. The loan must be paid back within a year (360 days) and the interest is 10%. If you do not pay back your debt on time, your reputation in the region where you got the loan may drop by five points. After about a month your reputation will go up one point but will stay at this level until you do something to improve your regional reputation. In addition you can not get a new loan until you paid back the old one.
- Buy/Sell House: In every town or city where there is a Bank you can purchase a house. Quite often there are many different types for sale. The cost is substantial: the cheapest ones cost nearly 400,000 gold. Every house can be sold back to the bank. Even the house you may get as a Paladin of a Knight Order can be sold to the bank. However, the asking price will be considerable lower than the base price. You may own only one house at the same time.
- Buy/Sell Ship: If the Bank is located at a seaport, you may also buy a ship. Ships come in two variants: a smaller one, for 100,000 gold, and a bigger one, for 200,000 gold. A ship can be sold back at any bank (even in cities that are not seaports) for a lower asking price. You may own only one ship at the same time.
