A shattered Dark Orb (Oblivion)

Dark Orbs, also known as Cursed Orbs of Meridia are spherical objects associated with the Daedric Prince Meridia. They were employed to imbue the selected ones favored by the Lady of Infinite Energies with remarkable vitality,[1] preventing them from dying, resurrecting them, and even preventing them from being banished to the Void as long as they remain near the orbs.[2][3]

Dark Orbs were primarily utilized by Meridia's Daedric servants, the Aurorans, although instances of their use were also documented among Ayleid rulers like King Narilmor and the semi-divine Umaril the Unfeathered.[4][2]

The Undaunted also crafted and distributed decorative replicas resembling one of the Dark Orbs.[1]

Colored Orbs[edit]

Different varieties of Orbs existed, referred to as colored orbs,[5] each granting Meridia's chosen various powers:

  • The Blazing Orb, red and linked to fiery passion and intense energy, bestowed fire-related abilities;[6][7]
  • The Phosphorescent Orb, blue and connected to calmness, inevitability, and despair, granted ice-based powers;[8][7]
  • The Scintillating Orb, purple and reminiscent of regality and striking night skies, conferred lightning abilities;[9][7]
  • The Radiant Orb, yellow in hue, enhanced their defenses.[10][11][7]

History[edit]

Narilmor's Auroran allies were empowered not only by a Dark Orb but also by Blazing, Phosphorescent, Scintillating, and Radiant Orbs.[11] After his transformation into the Symphony of Blades, a Meridian guardian, Narilmor wielded the powers of the latter four Orbs.[4] During Umaril's return in 3E 433, Aurorans in his service utilized one of these orbs in Garlas Malatar, which was subsequently destroyed by the Hero of Kvatch along with the defeat of the Aurorans in their quest to kill Umaril.[12][2] All known cases of Dark Orb usage occurred either in Garlas Malatar or within Meridia's realm, the Colored Rooms.[11][4][2]
