Captain Steffan, Blade Commander at Cloud Ruler Temple

Captain Steffan is the commander of the Blades at Cloud Ruler Temple in the absence of Grand Master Jauffre. He will also provide you with information about Mythic Dawn spies in Bruma and will accompany you to the Imperial Palace during Light the Dragonfires if Baurus is dead.

After waking up at 8am, he will spend the next eight hours patrolling back and forth across the exterior of Cloud Ruler Temple. At 4pm, he heads inside to the West Wing and stays here until midnight, when he grabs a late four-hour dinner before heading to bed.

There are a few exceptions to this routine. During the Weynon Priory quest, when you arrive at Cloud Ruler Temple with Jauffre and Martin, he will be one of the six blades standing in line in the courtyard, ready to lift his sword and salute his new emperor. If Baurus is alive, when you emerge from Mankar Camoran's Paradise, he will be found kneeling in a circle with his fellow Blades to hail you. If Baurus is dead, he will instead be found pacing outside the Imperial Palace waiting for you and Martin.

Steffan wears the usual set of Blade armor, including a cuirass, boots, greaves, gauntlets, and helmet. He wields an Akaviri katana. He sleeps in a brown shirt and light brown linens and carries a small sum of gold.

He is an admirer of architecture and especially Cloud Ruler Temple: "Aye, she's a beauty, isn't she? It's hard not to admire the stonework. That's some real craftsmanship, that is."

Other, busier, Blades will sometimes point you to him: "Please forgive me, but I'm afraid I haven't got time to talk right now. One of the other Blades should be able to assist you. Try Jena or Steffan."

Spies

After speaking to Jauffre about the spies recently seen in Bruma, he will suggest you first talk to the captain:

"Thank you. Talk to Steffan. He can tell you where he has seen them."

Steffan will indeed provide key information to help you locate the Mythic Dawn agents:

Spies

"We always see them near the runestone at dusk. They aren't too woodcrafty, but Grandmaster Jauffre has forbidden us to range too far from the walls. But it seems that you have been given the freedom to attack the enemy that we all crave! Good luck. We will keep the Emperor safe here, don't worry."

Light the Dragonfires

If Baurus has died at any point, Steffan will take his place at the Imperial Palace to welcome you and Martin. Once you arrive, he will have a brief exchange with his Emperor:

Steffan:

"Sire, Chancellor Ocato is expecting you. He had word of your arrival in the capital."

Martin

"Very well. Let's finish this."

If you speak to him now he will say:

"Good to see you again, ma'am/sir. Martin was worried, but I knew you would bring back the Amulet of Kings for him."

He will then follow your party into the palace and then out again while you fight your way to the Temple of the One. If he survives the final battle, he will return to his usual routine at Cloud Ruler Temple.
