NPC Magicka[edit]

Hi rpeh, I'm having a bit of trouble calculating NPC Magicka using your program. I was unsure whether to use "Base Spell Pts" or "Calced Spell Pts" when inputting a Magicka value in the program, so I checked with other NPCs to figure it out. However, once I tried I found my results where different from those on the NPCs pages. For example, with OB:Adamus Phillida I get 345 + 1.5x(PC+14) or 467 + 1.5x(PC+14), depending on with spell point value I use, which are both different from the 100 + 1.5x(PC+14) on the page. (I also don't seem to get a max value). Any ideas on what's going on? --SerCenKing Talk 11:15, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

For 99% of NPCs you shouldn't need to input anything in the Bonuses boxes. They're for people like Mannimarco who have special birthsigns and abilities that give them an extra boost (in M's case, to his health and intelligence). For Adamus, just enter his race, class and level offset and you should get "100 + 1.5x(PC+14)" - just like on the article at the moment. rpeh •TCE 14:43, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
Also, I just quickly added those texts into cslist. I haven't checked the code since I wrote it three years ago, but at least the one comparison test that I just did showed the right values. --NepheleTalk 14:54, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
Of course! Sorry, I completely missed the word "Bonuses"! Oh well, I shall crawl back into my hole of shame :P --SerCenKing Talk 17:28, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
Blame me for designing a rubbish user interface :) rpeh •TCE 17:43, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
Completely unrelated, but what are your thoughts on this matter: As you can see here, the Vitharn Ghost Soldier page is now 90% complete. The only remaining issue is how to tackle SE32TestJoelGhost, a test soldier who is actually called Vitharn Soldier (no "Ghost"). Should he have a separate page, or should I just stick him in at the bottom of the Vitharn Ghost Soldier page? --SerCenKing Talk 18:51, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
My rule of thumb has been that NPCs who are clearly tests shouldn't be included on separate pages. A brief mention at the bottom of the ghost page should be more than enough. rpeh •TCE 07:17, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

() Thanks. As a last question, is there any way I can avoid creating the two red categories that appear on the launched page short of making two separate NPC summaries? --SerCenKing Talk 12:20, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

Not without changing the NPC summary template. It's probably best to split the males and females into two separate summaries anyway, just so it's clearer which id refers to what. rpeh •TCE 12:25, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
Cheers, I've done that. I'll stop annoying you now :P --SerCenKing Talk 12:35, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

Wiki Logos Everywhere![edit]

Hey, I was just looking around at random blah and I noticed that there are in fact 3 copies of the current logo floating around: File:Wiki.png, File:Wiki.jpg, and File:Wiki3.png. This just seems...I don't know, something bad? The Wiki jpg and png are identical, other than the inherent difference between the file types, namely that the jpg is slightly of lower quality (hard to tell by eye though here) and a smaller file size (a lot smaller, but both are tiny anyway). These both possess the scroll like background of the site. The Wiki3 has a transparent background, but is otherwise identical to the other png. What annoys me about this one is that it is used primarily, though I cannot guarantee solely, by the Template Template:User Music. So I wanted to hear what you might have to say about the images before I did anything. I can't say I know much about the minutiae of images, especially the copyright and all that. --DKong27 Tk Ctr Em 23:21, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Copyright isn't a problem here, since the image belongs to the site. The one we actually use is this one, so it should be safe to keep the others. I think the best one to keep would be the transparent PNG version because it's usable in more places. Most uses of the other one are caused by the {{uespimage}} template, which I've just changed. Let's see how that works. rpeh •TCE 07:28, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

My very first edit[edit]

I just found my very first edit to the site which was back in August 2009. So now I found out it was you who undid my edit. I didn't know anything about wiki's back then, unaware of the existence of the recent changes page, didn't know how to create links etc. So when I found out my edit was reversed, it got me really angry, scaring me away for over a year from the site, cause I see I joined in October 2010. After I had joined, I went to the talk page to point out what I had edited back then, and I was told I was well-observant and correct. This was your edit that undid mine. Now I wonder, seeing the reason behind the undo, how did that make sense? I need closure! ~ Dwarfmp 23:37, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

It looks like I was taking the rest of that section literally and didn't check what was already there. The intro paragraph is all about the items that get placed around the wall of the throne room, so I assume I saw the C of M, realised it's not one of those trophies and removed it. TBH, that section could use an extra bit of text because at the moment it's a non-sequitur to jump from a discussion of trophies into a list of every benefit. Still, I should have checked the rest of the list. Sorry about that. rpeh •TCE 07:16, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
Thank you. Now my soul can finally rest... ~ Dwarfmp 09:55, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

What happened to etymologies?[edit]

What happened to etymologies were they removed, relocated or entirely deleted? How about creating page with only most relevant etymologies so all etymologies would be on one place for quick overview? — Unsigned comment by 109.60.92.39 (talk) at 15:49 on 2 November 2011 (UTC)

It was removed after a unanimous agreement from a deletion review. Some of the comments suggest that while some might like what you suggest. But it was shown to be quite hard to maintain it like that. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 15:49, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
Anyone who can come up with a method of keeping the page under control that doesn't involve continuous monitoring from admins or patrollers will win a prize. As you can see from that linked page (and every associated discussion we ever had) nobody wanted to see it go, but nobody could work out a way of stopping it acting as a magnet for every silly idea anyone ever had.
If anybody wants to get a copy of the page as it was for their userspace, any admin can look at the last version of the page and paste it into a subpage. Let us know if that's something you want to do. rpeh •TCE 16:02, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
Well, i would volunteer myself. But having not been around when these Etymologies where around I am somewhat reluctant. If someone would like to expand or show me the old page? I seem to have gain from a quick google that it is the meaning of a word? So would it be 'Word' - 'Meaning off word' in a table format. If you want to dig the old page up, theres nothing currently here. --Kiz ·•· Talk ·•· Contribs ·•· Mail ·•· 17:58, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
I've added the most recent revision of the article to your sandbox. --Legoless 18:03, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
That would be great, thanks. How about putting a warning on page that only most relevant etymologies should be added and rest would be deleted?

How about creating locked etymology page in only few users would post like RobinHood for transferring etymologies that seems relevant from other articles and Guild Knight for censure.

Etymologies seem to become more popular try typing Morrowind and Oblivion etymology at Google search and will see it is top searched words, Imperial library old storyboard forum, etymology thread has 208 000 views.

Can you stop adding these? I'm not interested. rpeh •TCE 07:31, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
OK this was for wikia, some etymologies seem to be relevant it would be sad to lost them.

Deleting Userspace Pages[edit]

Quick question for you or any other admin that sees this. Can I delete pages from my own userspace without nominating it first? It would be suitable for Speedy Deletion, right? So can I speedily delete it myself? --DKong27 Tk Ctr Em 04:50, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

Yes, you can speedy delete your own user pages. (You can speedy delete anything that qualifies; it doesn't require someone else to tag it first). --NepheleTalk 04:55, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
Ok thanks! --DKong27 Tk Ctr Em 17:01, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

Second Look[edit]

You should take a look at Skyrim:Markarth Military Camp, Skyrim:Windhelm Military Camp, Skyrim:Whiterun Military Camp, Skyrim:Solitude Military Camp, Skyrim:Riften Military Camp, and Skyrim:Reachwind Eyrie. I'm assuming that these are all just places that share their name with another location, but you might want to take a look at it yourself. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 04:08, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

Yes I know. I already listed them as problems on RoBoT's userpage. rpeh •TCE 04:27, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
Sorry I missed that, glad to know you're on top of things. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 04:28, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
I wouldn't go that far. I haven't slept in 24 hours and I'm beginning to lose a bit of focus. It took me three goes to realise that the orange message bar was for me because I was editing RoBoT's page at the time and kept checking that talk page instead. Tiredness really screws me up. rpeh •TCE 04:30, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
Sleep is a good thing remember. Even if you think you need to stay awake to work on anything, it starts to mess with you. We want to work at our best right? I hope to be able to get my hands on my Skyrim within the next 24 hours, if UPS is on time and I can actually get it from the place it is delivered to... And hopefully the...Creation Kit I believe it's called? Will be released soon. Probably where most of my checking will come from, even with the cslist. I've always been more used to how the CS is laid out over it. Now I should finish my Calculus and go to sleep too. :) --DKong27 Tk Ctr Em 04:41, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

Forgot if I've asked this[edit]

Glitch[edit]

You may want to read things like this before you simply say it isn't true [1]. I experience this myself while using the E key on PC. Once a spell is assigned with the E key to the right hand, the E key will simply cycle between right and the combination of left and right. Selecting a new spell with cycle between equipping the left hand and un-equipping it. The fact that you removed the glitch within a few seconds, makes me wonder if you actually tested it to see for yourself. 80.6.207.48 13:37, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

I've been playing the PC version since it was released and I've never seen anything like this. rpeh •TCE 13:58, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
Well it is happening for me (with current patch) and others have reported it as well. It doesn't surprise me that it is a intermittent glitch, since it seems like the Creation Engine uses some of the source code from Gamebryo. 80.6.207.48 14:13, 13 November 2011 (UTC)
Okay, I've re-added it for now. rpeh •TCE 14:28, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

() Since you are on PC, maybe you can test another bug. If you have your audio playback device set to higher than 24 bit, 44100 Hz - conversations will intermittently have a static (pink) noise effect. Example: [2] 80.6.207.48 14:40, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

I'm not going to test it, but it's not really a bug. It's a case of Don't do that then. rpeh •TCE 14:43, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

Skyrim Books raw text[edit]

Rpeh,

Forgive me if this is not the correct contact avenue, I'm quite a wiki newb. I saw your bot had already posted all the books from Skyrim. I am looking to package all these books up into a ereader friendly, mobi or epub format, so that I could read these books on the go, or on lunch break at work. I was trying to find all the text of the books. I couldn't find a tool to extract it from the esm, and exporting from your wiki pages leaves tons of wiki markup in the text. What is the best way to get plaintext of all the books, with their titles and authors? Not sure how you were able to parse it all from the .esm, but any help would be really appreciated!

--TravistyOJ 21:58, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

I worked out the format of the game files and extracted the book data from there. I'll be putting up the formats at some point, but there's quite a lot of other stuff happening too! rpeh •TCE 02:41, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, I know you are probably extremely busy right now, and you have already posted an immense amount of data. You wouldnt have plain text copies of the text you extracted handy would you? If not, no worries, I can just export the articles and maybe find a way to strip out the markup. Thanks!
--TravistyOJ 16:04, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
Nope. Sorry. rpeh •TCE 17:35, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Skyrim Dagon[edit]

I saw your picture of the shrine quest for Mehrunes razor, I can't find any NPC's or how to gain access into the shrine (it requires a key) Can you help me out? Just want to know where to start. — Unsigned comment by Gunker (talkcontribs) on 15 November 2011

I was contacted by a courier telling me about the opening of the museum. I don't know what has to happen before you get that invitation, though. rpeh •TCE 02:43, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
This information will be much easier to figure out when the Creation Kit comes out. Hopefully soon! For now, you'll just have to deal with the unfortunate lack of certainty of many things. :( --DKong27 Tk Ctr Em 04:54, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, I looked at my misc quests and saw one about a museum attendance, I'll check it out.

Why did you remove my image?[edit]

Why did you remove the image I uploaded to the Horn of Jurgen Windcaller page, with this revision? http://www.uesp.net/w/index.php?title=Skyrim:The_Horn_of_Jurgen_Windcaller&oldid=756810

My image detailed quite clearly a hidden area that most people probably will miss, and as with most hidden areas...they are difficult to describe in text, so I don't understand why you would remove it.

"You can jump from pillar to pillar in this room to reach some [insert loot here]." Boom, done. No need to lead people around by the nose; they can figure it out from there. Even if the picture was substantially helpful, all images should appear as thumbnails. Minor Edits 05:49, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
Yup. We don't use images as walkthroughs because they should be unnecessary if our text walkthrough is good enough. It's not a comment on your image so please don't take offense. rpeh •TCE 10:58, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Hm, okay, I see your point. Thanks. Predator106 17:52, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

"Why do people keep removing the lorename=none param ... "[edit]

Sorry, that's me. It has been my way of requesting a lore version for the various new pieces of literature. Since creating these pages is obviously not a priority, I didn't want to spam you admins with page requests directly. I also didn't think it was a big deal because I thought a lore version for most if not all of the new books was an inevitability, and I was just being proactive. I would have gone ahead and created lore versions myself, but I'm obviously not allowed to create new pages. Minor Edits 21:02, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Ah yes, I apologise. I forgot that the Lore namespace is locked down at the moment. I've decided to make you a Userpatroller. You easily meet the qualifications and it'll let you create pages in Lore space. If you decide you don't want the role later we can always remove it. rpeh •TCE 22:32, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
Thank you, sir! I'll try not to abuse the privilege. Minor Edits 22:37, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
Just a follow-up: Do you think the letter pics are appropriate for the lore versions of the Skyrim books which use them, or should their use be limited to the Skyrim versions? And FYI, for the foreseeable future, I'm only planning on creating lore pages for the new books which I know are going to be heavily referenced in the lore- The Book of the Dragonborn, The Rise and Fall of the Blades, The Great War, and other information-dumps like those. I'll be very, very careful about creating anything else, and will likely seek consultation if I do. Minor Edits 22:59, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
(e/c)There's not much to abuse! Please remember that we don't want Lore copies of every book. A lot of the notes are irrelevant outside their quest. I'm sure you can tell which ones need to be done though. rpeh •TCE 23:02, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
I was going to keep them to Skyrim copies, but that doesn't mean we can't transclude the Lore page anyway. I did a little hack earlier on one Lore page so the illuminated letter only appeared on the SR page. See [www.uesp.net/w/index.php?title=Lore:Words_of_Clan_Mother_Ahnissi&diff=prev&oldid=760015 this edit]. Not pretty but gets it done. The important thing is to check that the text is the same in both - I've seen a couple of books where it isn't (Brief History of the Empire v4, I think was one). rpeh •TCE 23:02, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
Oh, definitely; I know just from using the site that the vast majority of notes, letters, etc., are not and should not be in lore. And I recognize the lore section is not really important right now, which is why even I don't plan on spending the bulk of my time working on this stuff. Anyways, I've made a list of all the new literature that I think are the most relevant to the lore section. The list is highly under-inclusive; many more books will eventually make there way into lore. And I'm only really focused a handful of information-dumps in it. That being said, the list comprises 53 individual books, 5 series of books, 1 journal series, and two notes (currently viewable on my user page). I just wanted to give you a heads up that I will start making these pages, bit by bit, when I don't have more pressing concerns. Minor Edits 06:07, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
That's probably a good list. It may be a cliché but keep up the good work! rpeh •TCE 09:16, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

Apparently, my Userpage Needs an Image?[edit]

I'm seeing a Needs Image box on my page, but not only do I not see any edit that would have added it, or any vaid reaosn for it, I can't find the template in my page's code. Any idea on why that is?--Ghurhak gro-Demril or TAOYes? 10:01, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

It's the NPC Summary. It was changed recently to insert the NeedsImage template automatically if an image wasn't supplied. Just add "image=none" and the message will disappear. rpeh •TCE 10:16, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
Done. Thanks for the help!--Ghurhak gro-Demril or TAOYes? 10:35, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

Skills summary infobox width[edit]

Hey there Rpeh. I've begun the task of assembling images for Skyrim's skills. The game's images are a rather fickle thing to organize this time around, since there's no icons or illustrations for skills, attributes, items and the like as there were in previous games. For the skills, I've extracted the DDS files of the constellations and then traced them in Illustrator as you can see at Skyrim:Destruction. I think the style is quite nice myself - though it brings with it its own problem because they aren't of consistent dimensions, which personally sets off my OCD. I tried to add a user definable width parameter to Template:Skills_Summary, although I can't quite get it to accept any increments other than percentages. I'm not that up to par with WikiCode, but if you could get the infobox to accept, say, pixel widths (and without breaking the skill boxes of other games, where widths aren't provided/necessary), it'd be much appreciated. Thanks. StoneFrog 06:00, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

That's a really nice image. For now, add the others when you're done and we'll see what needs to be done about the widths. rpeh •TCE 09:14, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
Oh, they're already done - and look absolutely great. I don't think the infobox needs a change, tbh. Everything looks fine as it is. Superb work! Let's see how long it is before other sites copy those images. rpeh •TCE 09:31, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! I actually still have one more to do - the Speechcraft icon. The shapes are not fully enclosed in this one, kind of like the arm in Skyrim:One-handed (although in this case, I simply added a line to the top of the arm which looks fairly natural). I'm not sure if I could close them off without making the two human profiles look like members of the Dark Brotherhood or aliens. And yeah, it should be interesting to see what unfolds as the other wikis discover these. :P StoneFrog 17:16, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

Spam?[edit]

Is this user's page http://www.uesp.net/wiki/User:Ututu222 considered spam? he/she hasn't added anything else to the wiki.RIM 19:06, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

It's a real waste of site resources while we've been having trouble, but it's not really spam. rpeh •TCE 22:38, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

Map Icons[edit]

Great work on extracting the map icons! I was trying to compare the names you gave the icons with the place types I've been using and I noticed some differences. Did your names come from the game data? If so, I can rerun my place-parameter script and get the place pages updated. Also, there are a couple of icons I couldn't find in the icons you uploaded. In particular:

--NepheleTalk 06:28, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, but I didn't extract them - I'm assuming they're in one of those SWF files, but I can't make those work. Rather, I took screenshots and cleaned them up, which is why one or two are less pretty than the rest. The names are my best guesses so definitely not official. I named many of them during a period when the site was down so it's entirely possible you've used a more appropriate name. As for the missing three: damn. I thought I had them all. I'll do the other three soon. rpeh •TCE 08:36, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
Okay, here's SR-mapicon-Imperial Tower.png, SR-mapicon-Nordic Dwelling.png and SR-mapicon-Palace.png. I might try to clean some of them up later, but it's good enough for government work right now. rpeh •TCE 08:59, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
Actually, hang on - I've got this. I'll have a better set of icons along with proper names in a few minutes. rpeh •TCE 11:04, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
Okay, I've fixed my worst icons and changed the names on Skyrim:Maps to the ones used in the SWF file. Some of them are a little odd, e.g. Nordic Dwelling, when Ruin seems more appropriate, but that's what they use. rpeh •TCE 12:44, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
Not that I would dare say the work wasn't great ( ;-) ), could it be you're missing the door marker icon (the one that resembles a lock)? It may not be used on the world map, but is used on the local map. I recall we used it a lot on the online maps. --Timenn-<talk> 13:03, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
Damn - I'd actually made that one but hadn't uploaded it. SR-mapicon-Door.png - happy now? :) rpeh •TCE 13:07, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the new icons/names. Just one last question, though.... Town and Settlement are now using essentially the same icon, and the icon that had previously been uploaded at File:SR-mapicon-House.png disappeared in the renames. I'm guessing the latter is supposed to be the Settlement icon; it's used by SR:Honningbrew Meadery for example. --NepheleTalk 17:47, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
Flush your cache. I had the same issue at first. rpeh •TCE 17:52, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Atronach Forge Recipes[edit]

so I guess since those are for the daedric armor, you "translated" the daedric recipes? I'll remove the note, thanks rpeh :) Lukish_ Tlk Cnt 10:23, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

I just copy/pasted the text onto each page. If you want to fix the recipes to use the daedric font (and they really should), go ahead. rpeh •TCE 10:33, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
I'd love to, but have no idea which ones are which, I'm just working with data from others right now. I expect to be much more productive once I get the game. Lukish_ Tlk Cnt 10:39, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

The first SR image request[edit]

Hey rpeh! As you probably guessed from yesterday’s IRC conversation, I’m jumping on creating a page for The Only Cure. This is one of the good old image requests, although there is absolutely no rush – but it sounded like you had a few appropriate saves, so I figured I’d make a few requests anyway:

  • A 4:3 image of the Shrine To Peryite – not the world’s most impressive Shrine, but we need it for both the quest and place page.
  • A new 4:3 image of Bthardamz (used on both place and quest page)
  • I can make a 4:3 image of both Kesh and Orchendor from the files you already uploaded – however, if that is considered blasphemy, then a different 4:3 shot of them.

Hope you’re up for the task. It will probably take me a few days just to write the draft, so absolutely no reason to hurry – just when you are in an image-creating mood! ☺ Thanks in advance! --Krusty 08:06, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

Okay, File:SR-place-Shrine To Peryite.jpg, File:SR-place-Bthardamz.jpg, File:SR-npc-Kresh2.jpg and File:SR-npc-Orchendor2.jpg as requested. Enjoy! rpeh •TCE 10:18, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
Thanks a lot, mate! Now, if I could only get out of this workplace... :D --Krusty 12:59, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

Images and Word-Wrapping[edit]

How does it work for Skyrim:Brynjolf but not for Skyrim:Wujeeta or Skyrim:Brand-Shei?-Zydrate[][] 18:55, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Looks like you were posting here while I was posting on your talk page :)
Basically, the {{NewLeft}} template is what's causing your problem. Usually, it should go after the introduction but before any headers like "Related Quests" or "Notes". Then everything works out fine. rpeh •TCE 18:57, 25 November 2011 (UTC)
Indeedly! I'll remember that.-Zydrate[][] 18:58, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Sorry about Salen and Hides Himself[edit]

I'm sorry about Salen Indoran and Hides Himself being in the Lore pages. My friend decided to use my account that I forgot to log out of and started his idea of instead of having a secret person as the one who became Listener, Arch-Mage, Guild Master, and Gray Fox, he changed two of them to people. Those people were Salen Indoran, and Hides Himself. He ddn't have enough time to create the pages for them before we had to leave. He told me in the car what he did, but I was never able to remove Salen and Hides Himself when I got home. So sorry for this event.

Khajiit Movement Speed[edit]

The page on Khajiit had (until I just removed it) a statement that Khajiit move faster than the other races. However, according to everything else I've read, all the races have identical base movement speeds in Skyrim. The statement was added by the IP 96.52.201.109, who also added that same statement to the Races page, along with another unsourced statement that Argonians heal faster. Being that these were all that user had done, and that he had provided no sources, I was prepared to just delete his statements everywhere he made them, but then I saw that you had corrected the grammar of his Khajiit run speed statement without questioning the veracity of it. Was this just an oversight, or do you have a source that confirms this is true?

I was started on this whole investigation after reading this ("Hmm, perhaps i've been trolled, but this was on the UESP too, i guess you can never really trust a wiki.")

Thanks for your help in clearing this up. -- Hargrimm | Θ 21:26, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

First, thank you for bringing it up on a talk page rather than warring about it - we're getting an awful lot of that at the moment!
Our current policy is to fix the obvious stuff and not worry about what's actually right or wrong, unless it's something really obvious. In this instance, the "obvious" was the spelling mistake. I remember those edits and wasn't sure whether or not they represented something true. If you have any doubts, add a {{VN}} tag to the statement so we know it needs to be investigated further. Right now, I'm sure you can imagine there's quite a lot of other investigation going on! rpeh •TCE 22:41, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Syntax errors?[edit]

I keep getting this popup when trying to look up the Dark Brotherhood (So I can proofread the various articles);

A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:
(SQL query hidden)
from within function "Database::deleteJoin". MySQL returned error "5: Out of memory (Needed 33554404 bytes) (10.2.212.15)".

I've been getting this a lot today while trying to edit articles, mostly just going back and submitting again makes it go away but it's persistent on the DB page. I don't know what it means.-Zydrate[][] 17:23, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

Yup, I'm getting the same myself: we seem to have database problems today. I let Daveh know earlier, and now we'll just have to see what he can do about it. rpeh •TCE 17:27, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
Fair enough. I just thought it was a high traffic thing, but this place had much more traffic on release day.-Zydrate[][] 17:30, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

Easter Egg page[edit]

Can we get the easter egg page semi-protected? Twice in the last twenty four hours, I've had to re-add valid eggs which were removed without explanation by anonymous users. It's really annoying. I think we could at least cut down the garbage edits if the page was semi-protected. Any unregistered user who thinks they've found a really good egg should be enthused enough to create an account; if they are not, then in all likelihood they would've been introducing more garbage anyways. Minor Edits 19:13, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

I'd rather not. Most of the decent stuff was added by anons too, and although it's annoying to see perfectly valid entries being removed, it's just one of the things we have to put up with. rpeh •TCE 19:15, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
But when do we decide enough is enough? The Oblivion page is semi-protected, so I'm assuming that eventually we'll conclude the constant sabotage by anons is no longer worth the miniscule chance they'll have something worthwhile to contribute. A month? Six months?
What's really mind-blowing about each of those incidents is that they deleted the entry in order to put another in it's place. It's like they couldn't figure out how to create a new entry, so instead they replaced one and kept the formatting (i.e., six equal signs and a bullet). I don't think they particularly disagreed with the eggs they removed, they just didn't care enough to put two seconds of thought into the formatting so they could add to the page without hurting it. Putting aside the fact that they both also ignored the instruction to post on the article's talk page first, it's still just ... wow. Wow. You can see why I'm quickly losing faith in anonymous users on the egg page. Minor Edits 19:54, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

() On a related note, the Skyrim talk page is almost 88kb now, with a lot of resolved and dead topics. When will archiving become appropriate?Minor Edits 20:49, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

The Archiving Guideline has details on how to archive. Sorry, but I'm not feeling particularly well today and that's as helpful as I can be bothered to be right now :/ rpeh •TCE 22:09, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
Thanks, that's fine. Sorry to bug you.Minor Edits 22:39, 28 November 2011 (UTC)

Skyrim Alchemy Ingredient Icons[edit]

I wasn't sure if we were planning on creating alchemy icons in the same format as Oblivion, but if so: Would something like this work for alchemy ingredient icons? SR-icon-ingredient-Abecean Longfin.png Just a cropped screenshot with the bg removed, and edges cleaned up a bit. If something like this would work, I can start making more. --Aphotic Phoenix 23:02, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
