Welcome![edit]

Hello Ian Da Man! Welcome to UESPWiki! It's always good to have new members. If you would like to help improve any of our pages, you may want to take a look at the following links:

If you would like to spice up your userpage, click here for a list of userboxes you can use, including a guide to making your own.

When you're editing, it's always a good idea to leave edit summaries to explain the changes you have made to a particular page, and remember to sign your talk page posts with four tildes ~~~~. Also, the "show preview" button is a great way to view the changes you've made so far without actually saving the page (our patrollers really appreciate it!).

Feel free to practice editing in the sandbox or discuss the games on the forums. If you need any help, don't hesitate to contact one of our mentors. Have fun! •WoahBro►talk 03:58, 30 August 2015 (UTC)

Recent Changes[edit]

Hi Ian Da Man, I've reverted several of your edits to Anka-Ra pages where you labeled them as zombies. They might technically be undead, but they are not anything like Zombie enemies and are correctly listed as Redguard NPCs. I'd also ask that you refrain from adding the creature tag to humanoid Daedra articles pending the outcome of this discussion. —Legoless (talk) 18:09, 30 August 2015 (UTC)

Hi. About the Daedra, I don't recall putting that tag on them. If so, could you point out an article for me? Thanks! --Ian Da Man (talk) 18:16, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
If it is ok I could add two humanoid Daedra who has been tagged as creatures: Online:Xxthauaa and Online:Xznotell. I have not done any systematic check. This was just two random samples I did from what seemed like Deadric names. —MortenOSlash (talk) 18:51, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
Ah ok, I thought the Dremora were the only Daedra sub-specie considered as a humanoid race. --Ian Da Man (talk) 18:52, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
That was the case in Oblivion, but not so in ESO. You can check out the discussion I linked to if you're interested! —Legoless (talk) 22:33, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
I reverted the two, and found no other Creature tagged Xivilai under the Category:Online-Xivilai, but I observe that pages Online:Creatures and Online:Xivilai are not updated according to the above mentioned discussion, so it is hard not to fall into the same trap as Ian did if you have not followed the life of the wiki closely for some time. —MortenOSlash (talk) 03:44, 31 August 2015 (UTC)

Edit Summaries[edit]

Hey Ian Da Man! As a courtesy to other editors, please remember to leave edit summaries when making changes to a page. This helps to explain the changes you have made to a particular page, so that others can have a better understanding of what you are trying to do. Thanks! --Holomay (talk) 12:42, 31 August 2015 (UTC)

Okay, will do :) --Ian Da Man (talk) 17:06, 31 August 2015 (UTC)

Trivia Sections[edit]

Hey! I just wanted to mention that we don't typically have trivia sections on any articles, and if there is that sort of trivia, it would go in the notes section. In addition, we only include possible family relationships if there is some sort of evidence, even circumstantial, that links them besides name. Being in the same city, for instance, or some sort of dialogue that references the other person. A good example of this is Darvell Litte who mentions he regrets not becoming a mage, which is a reference to Alberic Litte from Oblivion, and thus it can be reasonably assumed that Darvell is Alberic's ancestor. One last point, even when they are related, we don't really add similar notes to older namespaces, since constantly expanding notes sections involving newer games isn't really useful when trying to find info about the older game. I do appreciate your enthusiasm though! Jeancey (talk) 19:34, 7 September 2015 (UTC)

Yeah, I guess it's a bit far-fetched. I had nothing better to do. Better drop it before it gets too far hehe.--Ian Da Man (talk) 19:36, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
If you are looking for something to do, there is always this page. :) Or you could join a project involving one of the older games. In addition, there is always plenty to do in the Online name space. I find that if you look a little, one never gets bored on the wiki :P Jeancey (talk) 19:39, 7 September 2015 (UTC)

Necromancer Category[edit]

I removed the Online-Necromancer category, since that functionality already exists by using the faction parameter on NPC pages. To group necromancers together, just add the related faction (Worm Cult, Withered Hand, etc.) to the summary template like so and it will automatically add it to the related category (example). For non-affiliated necromancers like Abnur Tharn, there's no real reason to categorize them. —Legoless (talk) 19:49, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

Alliance Membership[edit]

Thanks for all the work you're doing with ESO NPCs! However, membership of an Alliance isn't usually notable when that NPC is in a zone which belongs to that Alliance (example). The only instances I can think of that an NPC's alliance would need to be in the faction parameter would be in Cyrodiil (example) or in enemy zones (example). —Legoless (talk) 19:53, 14 September 2015 (UTC)

Well, I think if the NPC is obviously a member of any alliances it should be noted. For example, we know that most NPCs found on Ash Mountain are part of the Pact since they are there to banish Balreth. I would agree if some NPCs are loosely tied to them such as Captain Jimila which is the leader of a privateers crew working for the Dominion. --Ian Da Man (talk) 19:57, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
That's the problem though: where do we draw the line? It might be obvious that High King Jorunn and Captain Norra are members of the Pact, but someone like Captain Jimila begins to stretch it. What about random soldiers and civilians? Do we mark every Nord in red armor as being Pact members? Ultimately it bears no real relevance to gameplay and becomes far too difficult to discern in the home territories of the Alliances. —Legoless (talk) 20:02, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
I personally think it should be noted if we know they are part of an alliances if we are 100% about it. They are not a lot of NPCs who are "loosely" tied to them so I don't think it's much of a stretch and its not making the articles impossible to read or anything, it just adds a little to them. --Ian Da Man (talk) 20:06, 14 September 2015 (UTC)

Lore:Names Pages[edit]

Hi there! I've noticed the work you've been doing on all the NPC pages. Thank you, because this is definitely a massive project. One thing that I've been doing as I fill out an NPC's page is, at the end of a session of editing, go back over my contribs and add their names and titles/surnames to the appropriate race pages on Lore:Names. Could you add the ones you're working on too, so that we can make those pages as full as possible? :) Thanks! ~ Alarra (talk) 23:30, 25 September 2015 (UTC)

You want me to add all the NPCs names on that page? I mean, there are over 10K NPCs in ESO, wouldn't that be a tad too much? --Ian Da Man (talk) 00:48, 26 September 2015 (UTC)
Each major race has its own page to split it up a little (e.g. Lore:Imperial Names). Of course, that doesn't help with the work involved in adding them manually. —Legoless (talk) 00:53, 26 September 2015 (UTC)

Commented Out Sections[edit]

I've been meaning to mention it for a while, but could you just leave the commented out sections on the pages? The NPCs probably will have either notes, bugs or quests at some point and its easier for newer editors to add those things if they can simply edit the template that is already on the page, rather than assuming they will know what format we use. You don't need to add them back onto the page, just don't remove them from now on. Thanks! Keep up the good work! Jeancey (talk) 05:37, 27 September 2015 (UTC)

First Name Disambig Pages[edit]

I don't think these are necessary, and they're likely to be very numerous. Generally speaking, disambig pages should be for things people are likely to confuse for eachother. We don't need them for every partial name shared by multiple NPCs. That's what the Search feature is for. A good way to judge if a disambig page is necessary or not is if any page links to or has ever attempted to link to it. If not, it probably doesn't need to exist. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 06:25, 4 October 2015 (UTC)

Palmur-dra[edit]

I noticed you changed Palmur-dra's vendor type. However, the "Weapons" type is actually different from "Weaponsmith". Has it been changed in-game? —Legoless (talk) 15:25, 11 October 2015 (UTC)

I tought it was a mistake. As far as I know, it's the only NPC in-game that would have that vendor type. If it is in fact that, feel free to change it. --Ian Da Man (talk) 19:20, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
There's at least one other one. They're currently listed here, if you encounter any others. —Legoless (talk) 19:22, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
Ah, didn't know that. Well, sorry about the edit. Should have checked before hand. --Ian Da Man (talk) 19:23, 11 October 2015 (UTC)

Place Pages[edit]

The two-way place trails are done on purpose, so please don't remove them. If you'd like to help, it would be better to actually change pages over to the trail layout rather than manually adding categories like you've been doing. Also, dolmens are a specific type of place, so the Proving Grounds Dolmen was excluded on purpose. —Legoless (talk) 14:57, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
