Protected Followers[edit]

The quest DialogueFollower seems to be responsible for protecting followers. As can be seen in the CK, it's two Quest Aliases "Follower" and "Animal" have the protected flag set, meaning the aliased entity is protected as long as the alias holds it. --Alfwyn (talk) 22:49, 1 October 2012 (GMT)

Description[edit]

In the script ActorBase.psc the following lines can be found:

; Is this actor protected (can only be killed by player)?
bool Function IsProtected() native

I guess this makes the intention of the developers clear, and this should be reflected in the article. Currently it describes the exception to the rule first, without making clear what the actual purpose is. In my opinion the article should describe the intended behavior first, and the exceptions to that after that. Those exceptions may even get fixed at some point in time. --Alfwyn (talk) 14:59, 7 November 2012 (GMT)

It seems as if the exceptions have been fixed, or at least the mechanics changed.
Now, the console commands 'killall' and 'kill' only make a protected character go into bleedout, and after testing protected characters against their common demise (AoE magic and poison), I found that they wouldn't die unless I were the one to deal the final blow. console[edit]

is there a command for this like essential has? — Unsigned comment by 24.38.217.116 (talk) at 03:19 on 24 September 2013

I searched through the list of commands listed on Skyrim:Console, but didn't find a command to set an NPC as protected, like setessential does for essential status. I also found this talk page discussion that says the same thing. --Xyzzy Talk 03:41, 24 September 2013 (GMT)

Are followers also allowed to kill protected NPCs?[edit]

My humanoid follower began attacking my Husky (with Drain/Steal Life, I think). As I ran toward them, the husky died. Was it a fluke, or are your other followers considered to have the same privileges as "the player" in this case? (XBox 360, Legendary ed., current patches) 69.250.50.160 19:23, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
