First or Second Sanctuary?[edit]

Would this be the first sanctuary, the second or both? — Unsigned comment by 195.194.28.43 (talk) at 10:57 on 15 November 2011 (UTC)

The first. The one near Dawnstar is called the Dawnstar sanctuary, or something to that effect. ESTEC 20:43, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

House[edit]

If I destroy them can I use this as a house?HisK 17:33, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

I have a case of Hunter[edit]

A hunter keeps appearing in front of this Sanctuary. Once I saw it dropping from the sky, but the latter hunters have just appeared. It is nearly always a new hunter, because it changes gender, race and loot. The hunter has some equipment, but never wears it. Is this a bug or is it related to something I've already forgotten about the game? --88.112.41.113 23:25, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

Why isn't my comment shown on the actual talk page but is if one tries to edit the page? Also not visible in the history of the talk page. --88.112.41.113 09:52, 4 February 2012 (UTC) EDIT: Scratch that, now it is. Saving the page again helped. --88.112.41.113 09:53, 4 February 2012 (UTC)
Users that are not logged in seem to have an issue with the websites caching. If you create an account it will resolve this issue for you. Thuraya Salaris 09:54, 4 February 2012 (UTC)
I'm more interested in the weird hunter that appeared from nowhere. --88.112.41.113 09:43, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
Ive been getting this too. Its always the same: naked, with equipment not equipped, appearing already dead outside the sanctuary. Seems to change now and then, with all new equipment and a different race/gender. I have no idea what could be causing it. But its definitely not just you. 74.134.243.62 20:19, 19 February 2013 (GMT)

Guarded after Death Incarnate?[edit]

Returning here some time after Death Incarnate to harvest nightshade (there are four plants near the entrance), I was attacked by a lone Penitus Oculatus soldier. I killed him, but on a later return another one of them had to be dealt with. It seems there is a permanent guard on the place after it is destroyed. --174.6.51.17 05:59, 23 March 2012 (UTC)

I can confirm this, but I always run into half a dozen or so such soldiers, usually patrolling the roads near the Sanctuary. ?• JATalk 06:03, 23 March 2012 (UTC)

freeze bug[edit]

Each time i try to enter the sanctuary, the game freezes. I have completed the entire questline, and only need to return to grab a stone of barenziah. Is there anyone else who is experiencing such a thing and maybe someone who knows the cause and how to fix it? — Unsigned comment by 98.71.6.9 (talk) at 07:15 on 13 May 2012

Accessible Room[edit]

As you enter the sanctuary there is a bedroom off to the left. There is a wardrobe blocking access to a "secret room". The note here claims that the only way into it is by way of console commands, but does not say what the commands might be. Perhaps turning off the collision detection so that the player can walk through items?

However, the "secret room" is also easily accessible after Astrid's betrayal of the Dark Brotherhood because it is where she goes to perform the ritual calling upon the Night Mother to send someone to kill her. The wardrobe has been turned aside. Just walk in and put her out of her misery.

Consequently, I have edited the note. Kalevala 00:44, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

HELP!!!![edit]

Every time I leave the sanctuary, it just crashes and closes the game. Help, cos I'm stuck in the santuary right now and running out of time for another quest! — Unsigned comment by 86.143.88.1 (talk) at 17:34 on 5 July 2012

Daggers in the Map[edit]

Is there any significance to the map on the table outside Astrid's room? I think it starts out with only one dagger stuck in it, but as the questline goes on, more are added. I've never seen an explanation for this anywhere. Are the black spots on the map other Dark Brotherhood sanctuaries? Why is someone (Astrid?) marking these places with daggers? — Unsigned comment by 76.211.232.155 (talk) at 09:47 on 12 September 2012‎

It could be the locations of sucessful contracts executed by you. I didn't notice that the daggers were multiplying, but I'll check when I get home today.--Anil (talk) 17:27, 12 September 2012 (GMT)
Nope. I've done five dark brotherhood assasination quests, and there is only one dagger stuck in the map.--Anil (talk) 21:10, 12 September 2012 (GMT)
I've checked around, there seem to be multiple daggers in the map by the end of The Cure for Madness, judging from at least one specific instance. Any ideas as to what it could mean? The contracts theory was good, but it does look like that's not the case. Maybe someone could try to investigate those points on the map, see if they can find anything? I'd look myself but I'm between PCs at the moment. I do have a picture of the daggers in the map after Cure for Madness, but I'm unsure how to put it here. — Unsigned comment by 76.211.239.106 (talk) at 05:24 on 15 September 2012‎
Well, despite the fact you are just an IP address I'll take your word for it. I have a new theory, that the daggers mark where you've sucessfully executed one of Astrid's contracts but Nazeem's " Kill ____ contracts aren't marked. I've doneMourning Never Comes but none of Astrid's other contracts, and so there is one dagger in the map. If I remember correctly the dagger in the map was near Windhelm where I did the contract. I also think that there was another dagger sitting on the map near where Solitude is, which could be referring to Bound Until Death as I have started the quest before it but haven't finished yet.--Anil (talk) 18:35, 18 September 2012 (GMT)
I have checked these dagger locations and they are the locations of every contract given to you by Astrid — Unsigned comment by 2.219.102.237 (talk) at 15:18 on 14 April 2013‎
So what's the location of the first dagger? Since it's there when you first enter the Sanctuary and haven't yet done any quests for Astrid? Obax (talk) 02:33, 26 January 2015 (GMT)

() Contrary to what I stated on Ewolfg1's talk page, I'm reinstating the question here because I'm not only responding to the question asked, but also to the original topic, since the check sounds like it was done in-game, with no CK verification and no details on which one appears when. The daggers appear as follows:

  • The dagger over Windhelm is always present.
  • A dagger appears over Markarth along with Cicero and the Night Mother's coffin in response to your having done the first side contract.
  • A dagger appears over Volunruud at the very start of The Silence Has Been Broken when you get the objective to speak with Astrid.
  • A dagger appears over Solitude at the end of The Silence Has Been Broken as soon as you've shown the amulet to Delvin Mallory.
  • A dagger appears over Dragon Bridge at the end of Bound Until Death when you've killed Vittoria Vici.
  • A dagger might appear, lying on its side between Morthal and the bay east of Solitude, at the beginning (stage 5) of To Kill an Empire. The coding on this one is a bit unusual and I honestly don't know whether it would run or not. In-game checking would be needed. Robin Hood  (talk) 05:31, 28 January 2015 (GMT)

Restoring the Sanctuary[edit]

Is it possible, via the console, to restre the sanctuary to a not-so-destroyed state after Death Incarnate? I've tried using resetinterior, but all that does is reset items. The sanctuary is still destroyed. Schiffy (talk) 01:39, 25 October 2012 (GMT)

I have little knowledge of what you can do on the PC version with the console, but I'm pretty sure the destroyed sanctuary is an entirely different area. You need to find out if it is possible to switch out which area is linked to the door I would guess.--Playerseekingbugs (talk) 06:52, 8 December 2012 (GMT)

Is it really safe for storage[edit]

I placed a lot of my items (including my Gloves of the Pugilist and my Thieves Guild armor) in the dresser that the Unusual Gem sits on top of, and when I went to retrieve my items, they were gone! Are you absolutely, positively, 100% sure that "storage is safe" in the Sanctuary? I must admit, I'm pissed off... I not only lost my only access to the fortify unarmed damage effect, but also (at least eventually) Tonilia as a fence.70.178.160.32 23:59, 9 March 2013 (GMT)

Well that's sad. Fortunately for you, there is a full set of free and respawning Thieves Guild Armor in the Ragged Flagon - Cistern. The gauntlets, hood and armor are found in the training room with the mannequins and targets, and the boots are found next to Mercer's bed, the nice green one with a big wooden screen in front of it. Nothing I can do for the Gloves of the Pugilist though. Elakyn (talk) 16:11, 10 March 2013 (GMT)
Well, for the purposes of this webpage, I'm mostly concerned with correcting any mistake this site may have made when it listed the Sanctuary as non-respawning.70.178.160.32 16:13, 10 March 2013 (GMT)
Yes, this obviously needs further testing. I guess I'll try this evening and see what happens. Elakyn (talk) 16:43, 10 March 2013 (GMT)
The Never respawns parameter is taken directly from the game code. There is a respawns tag that must be added for a zone to respawn, and this zone does not have it. Other than that, it is possible that the dresser respawns separately from the rest of the zone? Jeancey (talk) 17:52, 10 March 2013 (GMT)
I did a bit of testing this afternoon and the place didn't respawn. I emptied every container in the sanctuary and placed ingots, arrows and skulls ito see if the stuff would stay or not. I then went away and waited for 32 days, nothing respawned. I then took the Unusual Gem since you mentioned this very dresser and went away for 65 days (just to be sure...) and still nothing. Nothing respawned, be it containers or items placed here and there. The only occasions I see for the place to respawn would be Cicero's appearance and the Sanctuary's destroying and even then I have my doubts on the former. I'll keep testing tomorrow. Elakyn (talk) 18:53, 11 March 2013 (GMT)

Map Icon[edit]

(PS3 user) Just wanted to mention that, unlike the Dawnstar Sanctuary, the Falkreath sanctuary's map icon only shows up after one of the two associated questlines (The Dark Brotherhood/Destroy the Dark Brotherhood) has begun. MrC (talk) 16:03, 13 March 2013 (GMT)

Patch fixed freezing bug?[edit]

I've just recently gone back into the sanctuary to get the stone of Barenziah, and I've noticed that the game still freezes when trying to enter the sanctuary, but I have managed to get past this by using the autosave, I just have to wait a while. I've been playing on the xbox, so I'm not sure if this is just console-related. Theglasssword (talk) 08:01, 15 March 2013 (GMT)

If you read it said fixed in the unofficial skyrim patch that is a PC mod so would not be for consoles 67.166.56.241 00:09, 16 May 2013 (GMT)

Ledge Overlooking Waterfall[edit]

Has anyone accessed this area by jumping, climbing or use Whirlwind Spirit? In the room behind the skull-screen there is a carved stand where a possible button to open the screen might go. Doesn't appear to be anything of value on the ledge, however.--Lmstearn (talk) 13:11, 9 December 2013 (GMT)

I've jumped to that ledge myself and there is nothing of note up there. --ZinnLav (talk) 13:18, 9 December 2013 (GMT)

Accessibility[edit]

I was under the impression that you can't enter the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary without a quest. You might want to mention that in the article. It seems like relevant information. — Unsigned comment by 50.26.7.181 (talk) at 07:35 on 22 December 2013 (UTC)

Is there supposed to be an agent outside every time? Insert non-formatted text here — Unsigned comment by 174.95.236.2 (talk) at 21:34 on 27 January 2021 (UTC)
