Resist magic?[edit]

I was under the impression that in skyrim the breton's skills were dragon skin and resist frost. This resist magic 25% has it been confirmed? — Unsigned comment by Spartacus (talkcontribs) on 04 November 2011

I'm not sure if it has been confirmed or not (although nothing is really confirmed until release), however considering that Bretons in Oblivion are resistant to magic rather than frost, it would certainly make sense for the Skyrim version to be similar. We'll have to wait and see. —Daniellibus ETC 13:58, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
he most likely has the nords resistance mixed up with the bretons (Eddie The Head 14:23, 4 November 2011 (UTC))
I thought they also had a resist shock trait? — Unsigned comment by 174.18.46.220 (talk) on 9 November 2011
That was prerelease information. The final version has bretons with magic resistance. Also, please sign your comments. - SushiSquid 06:56, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
We'll know in a few hours' time. rpeh •TCE 07:27, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
My active effects window shows my Breton as having 50% magic resist. Why does this page and so many others claim Breton has only 25%? Is it a bug, am I missing something, or is everyone just wrong? Kai Heilos 10:20, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

() Breton Blood is a passive that provides 25% magic resistance. If you have 50% magic resistance, you got the other 25% through other means. My guess is you got it from the Lord standing stone. -- SushiSquid 11:07, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Okay, just to make sure I wasn't going crazy I made a new character, chose Male Breton as my gender and race and then played up to where my bindings are removed and I gain access to the menu. I open the Magic section and select Active Effects, the only thing I have in there is "Magic Resist" with the description "Breton blood grants a 50% resistance to magic.". I'm playing via steam if that makes a difference (Version 1.1.21) and as far as I know I have no mods installed. Kai Heilos 18:54, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
That doesn't make sense. I play the PC Version too, and on all versions bretons have 25% resistance. I'm sure of this; I only play bretons. There is a tip during loading screens that erroneously states bretons have 50% magic resistance, but actually using player.getav magicresist proves their resistance is 25% as the active effect reports.--SushiSquid 21:48, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
After a simple test using the console command, I'm more than certain the magic resistance for Brenton is NOT working. The firebolt damage taken from a fire atronarch is 25dmg regardless of whether you are a breton or not. Period. (v1.1) — Unsigned comment by 220.255.2.72 (talk) at 17:43 on 7 December 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, welcome to patch 1.2. We've known since it came out that it broke resistances. Patch 1.3 is now available for PC and should be out soon for Xbox 360 and PS3. It fixes this error.--SushiSquid 23:22, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
Forgot about checking it with the console, it's actually showing as 25% when I use the getav command but in my active effects it's showing as 50%. I have no idea why it is doing this :s Kai Heilos 00:20, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

() I think Bretons now have 50% Resist Magic, found this link from the steam workshop: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=8411 Also my ingame stats are showing it. — Unsigned comment by 92.204.52.234 (talk) at 01:03 on 12 April 2012

Yeah, thats a mod, not standard gameplay. The Silencer has spoken 01:09, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

Height/Weight[edit]

Is this correct? What's the source? --Namira 18:59, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

Yes, it's correct. The source is the game data files. --NepheleTalk 20:26, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

Dragonskin[edit]

I broke the link on the Dragonskin description; it linked to Absorb Magicka, which is not what the ability does. The ability gives a 50% Spell Absorption effect, giving a 1-in-2 chance of an incoming spell doing nothing except restore your Magicka. I would link to the page, but one doesn't exist yet. For reference, see the Talk page on Standing Stones; there's a section dealing with the Atronach stone, with appropriate information. 97.117.238.93 22:17, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

Nitpicking[edit]

"since a Breton can summon weapons, that might be the path to choose" - Should this be in there? All races can summon weapons... and I'm not sure summoned weapons is a 'path' as much as a backup/alternate to real weapons. I think someone looking for start-up info on playing a Breton isn't going to find this helpful in the long run. Added a comment instead about Breton skill bonuses being good for support magic. — Unsigned comment by 173.181.38.229 (talk) at 07:16 on 4 January 2012

Maximum Magic Resistance?[edit]

The article states that with the Agent of Mara ability, Magic Resistance perk, and the Lord Stone, combined with their natural 25% resistance to magic, Bretons can have maximum resistance to magic. However, Agent of Mara gives 15%, Magic Resistance's third rank gives 30%, and the Lord Stone gives 25%. This only gives 95%, 5% away from 100%. Unless there's an error on one of the articles, this information should be removed. --67.173.49.144 22:40, 23 December 2012 (GMT)

From the resist magic article "Resist Magic is capped at 85%, meaning you can not gain magic immunity." So the maximum is 85%, and with a Breton you hit that cap. Jeancey (talk) 22:44, 23 December 2012 (GMT)

Reachmen[edit]

Game dialogue sometimes distinguishes between Reachmen and Bretons; however, apparently, ingame data does not. All Reachmen (whether Forsworn or not) are identified as Bretons by the game data. Should they get a section on this page maybe? Obviously they're not playable, but there should be some explanation for why Madanach and Belethor are listed as the same race. --Morrolan (talk) 21:12, 15 August 2013 (GMT)

Maybe a note that NPCs who are apparently Reachmen are portrayed as Bretons. That's as far as I would take it. Minor EditsThreatsEvidence 19:22, 16 August 2013 (GMT)
Well presumably they are branches of the same ethnic group, who have simply diverged culturally and probably linguistically. The Madmen of the Reach lore book mentions that they look just like Bretons, and then there's the Breton chef in Markarth in a huff because people think he's a Reachman. It would be pretty pointless to create a new unplayable race when there really isn't a meaningful difference that would affect gameplay. 94.197.121.241 11:33, 8 February 2020 (GMT)
