Svana Far-Shield

Svana Far-Shield is a Nord living and working in Haelga's Bunkhouse in Riften.

Svana's supposed to sleep from midnight to 6am, but her work package overrides this (see bugs section). She eats breakfast from 6am to 7am. Then she works at the bunkhouse only to stop and eat at 1pm and 5pm both for one hour.

She wears a set of barkeep clothes and a pair of shoes. She wields a leveled dagger up to elven quality, and carries a key to the bunkhouse, along with a selection of lower-class items and gold.

Quest-Related Dialogue[edit]

Caught Red Handed[edit]

Why do you hate Haelga so much?
"It's not just the work, it's everything about her. She's disgusting. I think she takes her worship of Dibella a bit too seriously. Do you know she's slept with three different men in the last month alone? What kind of a woman would do such a thing? Just for once, I'd like to see her squirm... to rub her nose in it."
There must be a way.
"Actually, there is, but I don't think I could get away with doing it. She'd kill me if she found out. You see, I happen to know after she makes love, she gives her partner a token of her affection called a Mark of Dibella. If you confront her with three of the Marks, she'd be so embarrassed... well, I don't know what she'd do!"
Sure, I'll help you.
"Oh, this is going to be great! You need to get the Marks of Dibella from Bolli, Hofgrir and Indaryn. Not sure how you're going to do that, but try your best. Then just confront Haelga with them and the rest works itself out."
Maybe another time.
"Yeah, you're right. Maybe it's not the best idea."

When you have yet to deliver the marks, she might greet you with:

"Any luck getting the marks from those men?"

And she'll leave conversations with:

"Try and get those marks without violence please. I don't want to be responsible for their deaths... or yours."

After you have confronted Haelga with the marks:

I gave the marks to Haelga.
"Oh I know. Isn't it wonderful? I bet she squirmed like a skeever when you pulled them out of your pocket. I think things are going to be a lot different around here from now on and I have you to thank for it. Here, I want you to have this. It was my father's but I'm certain you'll put it to good use."

Spread the Love[edit]

During the quest Spread the Love, you can give one religious missive from the Temple of Mara to Svana, who will confusedly accept your offer:

"Thank you. Umm, blessings upon you too."

Dialogue[edit]

When greeting you:

"Sorry about the mess. Keeping this place clean is quite a chore."
"I'd appreciate it if you'd keep your hands to yourself."
"The Bunkhouse isn't an inn. I'd recommend the Bee and Barb."
"Hey! Good to see you again." (After completion of Caught Red Handed)
Do you work here?
"Work? I suppose you can call it that. I call it slavery. I work my fingers to the bone keeping this disgusting place clean. Ever since my parents died and Haelga took me in, it's been a nightmare. How was I to know she was such a wretched woman? So now I'm stuck living here while those pigs she calls customers grope me and say the most awful things."

When exiting conversation, she may bitterly say:

"Sure, leave. Not like you care anyway."

Conversations[edit]

She can often be seen talking to Haelga or some of the other bunkhouse residents in the bunkhouse:

"I'm saving myself for someone special."

Svana: "Aunt Haelga, why you... demean yourself with these people you barely know? They show no real love for you."
Haelga: "It's only a bit of fun. You're a lovely young thing, you should try it sometime."
Svana: "No! I'm saving myself for someone special. Someone who loves me dearly."
Haelga: "You mean Sibbi? You must be joking! All he wants to do is bed you and be done with it. You may as well get it over with and let him."
Svana: "You're wrong! Sibbi and I are in love and you're just jealous!"

Haelga: "Svana! Has that skooma-addled idiot Niluva paid us her rent yet? Or does she have more excuses?"
Svana: "She said she'll have it soon. She still has her job at the meadery for now, so she'll be able to pay us."
Haelga: "Why do you insist on defending that woman? All she does with her money is spend it on that Dark Elf garbage!"
Svana: "Just be patient, aunt. She'll have it, I promise."

Tythis Ulen: "Hey, Svana... I hear you like Dark Elves. Perhaps I could should [sic] you what a real Dark Elf can do to you."
Svana: "You're an animal, Tythis... keep away from me."
Tythis: "Ah, so my reputation as a lover precedes me. Care to reconsider?"
Svana: "You're disgusting! Don't you even think of laying a finger on me or I'll cut off something you can't live without."

Svana: "How do you do it, Valindor? How do you work at Black-Briar Meadery and the Fishery without getting exhausted?"
Valindor: "Oh, it's not so terrible. I actually find the work quite relaxing."
Svana: "Relaxing? They must be working you to the bone! You should rest before you do yourself in."
Valindor: "Not to worry, dear Svana. I promise you I can handle it, but your concern is quite flattering."

Svana: "Wujeeta, you're worrying me. You look so... well, so sad."
Wujeeta: "Don't worry about it, Svana. It's my problem... no need for you to get involved."
Svana: "Look, if you're in some sort of trouble, I could talk to Haelga."
Wujeeta: "No, no... please, I'm just tired is all. Thank you."

"They say... well, they say he murdered someone."

Brand-Shei: "Svana, I heard that Sibbi was put in jail. What happened?"
Svana: "They say... well, they say he murdered someone. Something to do with Svidi."
Brand-Shei: "Come to think of it, I haven't seen Svidi in a while. Wait... he didn't..."
Svana: "No, it was Svidi's brother, Wulfur. She's in hiding now. Somewhere far from here I'd suspect."
Brand-Shei: "If he wasn't a Black-Briar, I'd march right over to the jail and teach Sibbi some manners... but then I suppose I'd end up like Wulfur."

Svana: "Madesi, why don't you just take a bed here? There's no need to sleep in Beggar's Row."
Madesi: "The cold stone, the dampness... it suits me, Svana."
Svana: "Are you sure that's the real reason? It wouldn't have anything to do with others making an Argonian unwelcome, because if it is..."
Madesi: "You have a kind heart; much too kind for Riften. Don't worry about me, I'll be just fine."

Bugs[edit]

  • Svana's sandbox package for the back of the bunkhouse blocks most of her remaining schedule, including her sleep package.
