Quick Walkthrough

1. Talk to Talen-Jei about his plans to marry.
2. Find three flawless amethysts he wishes to place on his engagement ring.
3. Return to Talen-Jei.

Detailed Walkthrough

Upon speaking with Talen-Jei in Riften, he will reveal his affection for Keerava, the innkeeper at The Bee and Barb. He wishes to marry her, but his "meager earnings" haven't allowed him to obtain the gems needed to complete the setting for a proper engagement ring. If you offer to help, he will tell you he needs three flawless amethysts. There are nine guaranteed gems found in eight different locations, which are noted on the item page. Starting at level 12, you may also buy them from merchants at a base cost of 180 gold, find them as random loot, or get them randomly while mining. When you return to Talen-Jei with the gems, he will thank you, and reward you with a random leveled potion.

• This quest counts towards assisting the citizens of Riften to become Thane.

Notes

• Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
• Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
• If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
• On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage FreeformRiften06 stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest using resetquest FreeformRiften06.
