Is there a mod around for PC users to be able to 'anser' max or one to 'How many?' when selling/dropping/storing? If not, would it be possible to make one, and would it be difficult? (since I'm no modding expert) - Korunox 09:39, 22 February 2008 (EST)

[edit] Grabbing as Stealing
Grabbing an owned item definitely causes any observers to act as if you picked it up, but I don't know it the Items Stolen count increases. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 10:42, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
- I've got Oblivion on just now. I shall check. Unfortunately, there is no screenshot taking thingy on the PS3 version so I'm afraid you'll need to take my word for it. -- DurradanIV 10:45, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
- Yup. Confirmed. It adds one to your Items Stolen count and gives you the correct bounty. Makes sense if you think about it. -- DurradanIV 11:06, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
- OK :) I suppose I was just getting confused with Telekinesis, which doesn't count as stealing, even though you'd think the two would use similar game mechanics. --NepheleTalk 12:00, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
- Yup. Confirmed. It adds one to your Items Stolen count and gives you the correct bounty. Makes sense if you think about it. -- DurradanIV 11:06, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
[edit] Button Images
Is it just me or are the button images (For like, Y and X) a bit Low-Quality. I think we need to find a set of cleaner buttons to use. If anyone agrees, I'll personally look myself. It's just something that might make the page look more professional. Ocylith 08:59, 16 April 2008 (EDT)
- I don't see any real flaws in the quality of the button images. But I have never seen an Xbox controller, so I wouldn't know what they look like in real. If you are sure of this, and have better versions, you are welcome to upload them. Just make sure that the backgrounds are transparent (.png transparency is recommended over .gif transparency) and the images the same size as they are now. --Timenn < talk > 09:58, 16 April 2008 (EDT)
-
- I don't have them NOW, however, I'm sure I could find them somewhere. They just seems to look too old. Maybe it's just me. Ocylith 10:19, 16 April 2008 (EDT)
[edit] Quick Sell
Is there a way to "quick sell" something? I'm trying to train alchemy, but buying one of every ingredient from for example a inn is taking so long. Move, click, all, yes, move, *repeat*. It would be great for those single number objects that seem to be all too common. --Guest ;)
- Nope. It's one of the more irritating aspects of training the mercantile skill. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 03:04, 30 April 2008 (EDT)
[edit] Arrow keys on PC
I felt it worth noting that regardless of how the controls have been setup on the PC version, the arrow keys always perform special functions in the various ivnentory/buy/sell screens from the game... Some of these can be useful shortcuts...
For example, while looking in a container, pressing the left arrow key twice will 'take all'.
While in the buy/sell screen, pressing the left arrow will function the same as clicking an item (brings up 'how many' prompt, or brings up the 'are you sure you wish to sell this for' prompt.)
In the 'how many' prompt, perssing the up arrow functions like clicking 'ok'.
In the 'are you sure' prompt, pressing the up arrow functions like clicking yes.
Obviously this means that buying and selling items (particularly those alchemy ingredients) can be done a lot quicker with a hand on the arrow keys. Worth adding to the article?

- Yes, I'd say that's worth noting somewhere, as I had never discovered it. Though you should be clear that for things like the "Are you sure?" prompt, that you have to click the up arrow and Enter to truly "click yes", so to speak. Also, are you doing this on an unmodified version of the game? I'm using OBSE, so can't be 100% certain that it's not that that's adding the functionality. As long as you're not also using OBSE, then it's safe to put in the main article. --Robin Hood (Talk • E-mail • Contribs) 17:22, 20 July 2008 (EDT)
[edit] Mouse Wheel
Am I correct in assuming that the Middle Mouse Button would function the same as the mouse wheel in a three-button/no-wheel mouse? If so, the wording should probably be changed appropriately. Also, if someone with a two- or three-button mouse could play around and find out what controls (if any) zoom in and out in the absence of a wheel, that'd also be useful to add to the page. --Robin Hood (Talk • E-mail • Contribs) 17:17, 20 July 2008 (EDT)
[edit] ControlMK
I realize alot of you use Xpadder, but I suggest giving ControlMK a try. You can map controller buttons to keyboard keys, and remap the control sticks to mouse movements. I used ControlMK to remap my Logitech Chillstream XBOX 360 controller when I couldn't properly remap it in GTA San Andreas and it worked beautifully. ControlMK is easy to use, and you can save individual controller remaps, name them based on what game they're for, and then easily switch. I only suggest ControlMK as an easy alternative to using the much more difficult to use Xpadder. Daedryon•T•C•E• 00:47, 4 August 2008 (EDT)
[edit] Grab Mode
Is there a guide anywhere, or any tips, for using Grab mode? I'm having a really hard time decorating my house, as I can't rotate things without banging them against a shelf hoping they'll flip around to the proper orientation. Is the only recourse to simply pick the item up and then leave inventory through grab mode, thereby gently placing it in front of me? If so, how can I put weapons in racks? I'm on the 360 (not by choice) so mods are out of the question. Any guidance would be appreciated. Cavanoskus 19:29, 17 August 2008 (EDT)Cavanoskus
- I don't have a lot of tips for you. I'm on the PC, but I'm 99.99% certain it works the same on both. What I find most useful is to go into Walk and/or Sneak mode to enable slow, fine movement. Also be aware that the point you grab the item at will affect the physics used on the object. So if you pick up a garbage can by the bottom, it'll flip over and dump everything out; if you pick it up by the top, it'll stay mostly-upright, as though hanging on a hook from wherever you picked it up.
- Personally, I've always found grab mode so annoying that I've never tried to do anything more significant than sorting things into piles or putting them on different tables. I've heard of people decorating their houses, but I can't imagine the amount of time and effort involved in doing something like that. Perhaps there's some trick to it all that neither of us knows, but my gut feeling is that these "interior decorators" just have more time and patience than I do. :) --Robin Hood (Talk • E-mail • Contribs) 12:49, 18 August 2008 (EDT)
i can give you some tips that i use, i too was looking for a guide to see some more elaborate tricks. what i do is:go into sneak mode and find the angle at which i want my object to face or lean, so if i want it upside down i grab the bottom. I always move the object slowly unless i'm getting to face a different direction. sometimes a bit of "throw and catch is neccessary"Repeater 11:44, 15 April 2009 (EDT)Repeater
[edit] Neat camera option: Vanity Mode
I am not sure if anyone has discovered this on the Xbox 360 version of the game. If you click in the right thumbstick (which normally switches between third and first person views), and keep it pressed inward, any movement of the right stick moves the camera but keeps the player character facing the original direction. You can look behind yourself, peek around corners, and look at every aspect of your character. This only works in Third Person, however. If you are able to do this on the PC, it would be awesome for screenshots. Miasma 17:15, 27 August 2008 (EDT)
- Yes, this works the same on the PC. If you keep the middle mouse button pressed, you can rotate the camera around your character or up and down. I'm pretty sure this is documented in the PC manual, but I can't seem to put my hands on mine right now. You may want to double-check the Xbox manual to make sure it isn't documented in there as well. --Robin Hood (Talk • E-mail • Contribs) 18:29, 27 August 2008 (EDT)
- That's cool. And yes, it is present in the manual as "Hold down to enter Vanity mode". It also allows you to zoom in and out using L and R triggers, and those set how close or far your third person zoom is.
- Information on the Vanity Mode was included into the article back in July. —Dark Spark 15:50, 28 September 2008 (EDT)
Only recently I discovered Oblivion's vanity mode (PS3)... I don't use it much because because, let's face it, it's one of those actions that can wear out your analog sticks real fast... Fallout 3's vanity mode feels much more practical though, maybe they'll implement it in TESV. --201.230.126.164 21:04, 18 April 2009 (EDT)
[edit] New Xpadder control style
I'm currently (using a Logitech Chillstream controller) using Xpadder to map all the games controls for Oblivion. It's going good so far. I'll post some detailed instructions once I'm done. Daedryon•T•C•E• 21:50, 26 December 2008 (EST)
-
- Ok, I just need to do 1 last thing (hopefully)
1. Permanently change the attack from utilizing the Left Click - DONE (Left click changing was under Mouse controls, I forgot about that )2. Map the Hotkey buttons to the D-pad, which I cannot for the life of me do - DONE (Simple fix, didn't know that #'s 1-8 controlled hotkeys. D-Pad hotkey is fully functional)- 3. *NEW* W, S, A and D are mapped to the Left Thumbsticks' Up, Right Down and Left, respectively. However, I cannot move diagonally at the same pace as when I move up and down or left and right. I've tried switching the Left thumbstick type to "8 way", but for some reason, when I switch to Always Run, my diagonal goes slow. When I turn always run off, my diagonals speed up, and my main directions slow down. - STUMPED
- Someone help? Daedryon•T•C•E• 01:58, 27 December 2008 (EST)
- I've continued testing my control scheme, which I've added into the article, and yet, turning the left stick into an 8way, via the Wrench icon, and setting the diagonals as "W and S" still makes my character move slow, while using up/down/left/right makes him move fast (after hitting Caps lock for running). I'm wondering if it's just X-padder making my controller hit W, then S, then W, then S, which in turn just makes me move up, then right, then up, then right, instead of in a diagonal. I'm still stumped as to how to make X-padder accept diagonal movement. Daedryon•T•C•E• 04:47, 31 December 2008 (EST)

[edit] Power Attacks
There should be a mention and at least a basic explanation about the mechanics of power attacks in Oblivion and the related controls. I've searched the whole UESP for 'melee' 'power attack' etc., but nothing useful came out (other sites do list useful info).

- Basic combat information can be found in the Combat article for Oblivion. More esoteric tips may be discovered in the Swordplay article. —Dark Spark 07:14, 19 April 2009 (EDT)
[edit] Xpadder is no longer freeware
Since Xpadder isn't free any more, could some alternative method be added to the page?
[note I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure the xpadder website is quite clear] —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 90.193.1.244 (talk • contribs) on 28 June 2009.
- It seems that you are correct about that. The download page for an older, seemingly still free, version still works though. The current method may still apply, but if you can find a new method that works too, you're free to add it. --Timenn < talk > 11:08, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
[edit] 'Take All' Shortcut? (PC)
After playing Fallout 3 for the fifth time, I've been interested in replaying Oblivion again. Though, the only annoyance I have with Oblivion is the lack of a shortcut key for the 'Take All' when searching containers and corpses. Is there a mod out there that enables you to create a shortcut key for the 'Take All' button? Sixstring7 17:09, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Getting Xpadder to Work
I have recently purchased Oblivon PC and Xpadder and can't seem to figure out how to get the two to work together. I got the controls mapped, but I still run in to the same problems as if I did not even install Xpadder. I followed the instructions (or so I think I may have) but I did not see any part of the instructions that talks about linking Xpadder up with Oblivion. So far the closest I have gotten to getting my Xbox 360 controller to working with Oblivion was using the Oblivion.ini edit that Bethesda issued a while ago (however that edit still does not get the triggers to work). Could anyone be so kind as to help me a little more in depth to get my controller to work? Please and thank you. Vashmanseven 06:20, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
