[edit] his katana

Does anyone know the iD of his akaviri katana?LordDagon 11:35, 18 December 2007 (EST)lordDagon

Yup. It's 0006b843. Also, you can sign your posts using four tildes (~~~~) --RpehTCE 14:52, 21 November 2007 (EST)
Thanks Rpeh. I've adjusted the tildes. Next question: If you take the katana from Baurus during the tutorial, will he have a backup sword or weapon or will he just fight for the rest of the main quest bare-handed?LordDagon 11:35, 18 December 2007 (EST)lordDagon
I can't see how it's possible to make this happen without cheating so much as to make the question meaningless. The only sword Baurus carries is his katana, so I'd imagine that he'll fight bare-handed, although he'd probably pick up another sword if he found one. But since there's no way of stealing the sword from him, and waiting until it wears out and breaks gives a new meaning to the word "dull", I don't think this is ever likely to happen. —RpehTCE 13:51, 18 December 2007 (EST)
It's possible. The very first time i played Oblivion ( never having even heard of the wiki ) i just kept fighting those assassins ( while the emperor was waiting in that small room ), ad his katana broke. Of course, I had battled very long. ( The bodies piled up terribly )LordDagon 08:00, 23 December 2007 (EST)lordDagon
one more thing about his katana is that if he dies and you pick it up then talk to Jauffre. He mentions Baurus's death, thanks you for retrieving the katana, and take it away from you mentioning it deserves a special place or something like that.
I'm currently trying to take his Katana by using disintegrate weapon spells (while in 100% cham.), enchanting it with a good Sigil Stone, and then placing it in front of him and making him pick it up by pissing off a monster I summoned myself. Is there anything I should know about this before I go ahead? --Zirakseez 15:27, 6 December 2008 (EST)

[edit] SetEssential

Something odd happens when I try to make Baurus essential. Using the setessential command, his reference ID (32A17) - the one at the top of his profile box doesn't work - but his so-called base ID (23F2A) does. I have always used the reference IDs in the past, and have never experienced anything like this. Any thought/comments/better knowledge of the console than me :)? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 87.127.79.8 (talkcontribs).

The SetEssential command is one that requires a BaseID, rather than a RefID. The information on BaseIDs and RefIDs is something that has only just been added to the site. Which means that any IDs you got from UESP's NPC pages prior to last Friday were all BaseIDs. It also means that we haven't had a chance yet to get the Console page fully updated: eventually that page should provide better information on which commands require RefIDs and which require BaseIDs. Yes, it's confusing having to keep track of two IDs and know which one works for which commands, but that's the way Bethesda wrote the game ;) --NepheleTalk 15:44, 20 January 2008 (EST)

Ahh - thanks for that. And that would make sense, actually, since I did the Battle for Castle Kvatch on Thursday, and when I come to do the one with Baurus in the sewers today, suddenly making people essential wasn't working. And from the look of it, Base ID is the one you use for 'placeatme' as well. Thanks again. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 87.127.79.8 (talkcontribs).

Yes, BaseID is the ID to use with the placeatme command. However, using the placeatme command with NPCs is really not a good idea, as explained at NPC Console IDs. That's one of the main reasons for switching the NPC pages to prominently display the RefID instead of the BaseID: using console commands (for example moveto) that affect the existing character via RefID is much safer and much more likely to actually do what you want than spawning a second copy of the character using BaseID. --NepheleTalk 13:15, 21 January 2008 (EST)

[edit] The one katana

If Baurus' katana breaks in the sewers during the tutorial, and he drops it, does that mean that he never has a weapon (apart from those that he picks up) for the rest of the game? --Merco 14:29, 4 June 2008 (EDT)

Actually, that was my second question under the first headline; Next question: If you take the katana from Baurus during the tutorial, will he have a backup sword or weapon or will he just fight for the rest of the main quest bare-handed?, to which Rpeh replied I can't see how it's possible to make this happen without cheating so much as to make the question meaningless. The only sword Baurus carries is his katana, so I'd imagine that he'll fight bare-handed, although he'd probably pick up another sword if he found one.. --LordDagon 12:14, 5 July 2008 (EDT)
During the tutorial, attack him, get hit, yield, heal spell, repeat until the sword drops. You can get all his blade armor too, except his shield, by hitting him until the armor breaks and then yielding and pickpocketing him. I dropped another weapon so he would fight with his shield out but was never able to break it (he must be a journeyman of block). Just know, he'll only have whatever you give him, so make sure you reverse pickpocket some gear onto him later or he'll be running defenseless in the sewers and bare knuckle boxing daedra at the Battle for Bruma in his pajamas. Also, you can get the Emperor's silver sword the same way you can get Baurus'. Without cheating, tediously grinding for it, but not cheating. Oh, and I'm pretty sure you get a bounty, for assaulting the Emperor and his body guards and all that.69.204.11.122 19:56, 24 April 2009 (EDT)

[edit] the young'n

No way is he the youngest blade like jauffre says. Does anyone know if some bethesda pedant when into the CS and made all the other spring chickens newer by a year? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Temple-Zero (talkcontribs) on 29 July 2008.

Jauffre says he's one of the yongest blades, not the youngest.--Kaito 18:59, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
He probbaly joined when he was younger and when you meet him he's been in for a couple of years or more.217.44.19.242 17:23, 30 July 2008 (EDT)
I'm guessing you're talking about this line?
One of the youngest Blades ever to serve in the Emperor's personal guard.
If so, I wouldn't interpret it to mean that he's the youngest Blade overall. It's likely to mean that he's younger than Renault and Glenroy, who as far as I know made up the rest of the Emperor's personal guard. But it's also possible that Baurus joined the personal guard 20 years ago when he was 25 -- so 25 is the youngest age at which someone has ever joined the personal guard, but Baurus is no longer that young. Which, I just realized, is exactly what the last post just suggested ;) --NepheleTalk 18:10, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

[edit] Dialogue after completing the main quest?

Can you guys post what he says after stopping the Oblivion siege machine thing and the main quest? He died with Jauffre in the battle for Bruma in my game, but I'm still curious. All help would be appreciated. 60.50.69.188 07:58, 31 August 2008 (EDT)

Done. And Jauffre's too. –RpehTCE 08:15, 31 August 2008 (EDT)

And I just read the quote and it's now spoiled my whole game... this is my first playthrough, Baurus just died in the sewers so I came to find out if that will have a bad effect in the future, and instead I learn that Martin is going to die in the end... great!! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 78.53.37.221 (talkcontribs) on 15 November 2008.

Where does it say he dies? Furthermore, a disclaimer can be found on the Main Page that you should keep in mind that the entire site contains spoilers. There is little content that can be posted that doesn't spoil something about the game. --Timenn < talk > 07:40, 15 November 2008 (EST)
I don't have any problem with regular spoilers, but I think it's not necessary to have a spoiler that gives away the conclusion of the main quest written on the page of a non essential NPC. I think it's common for Baurus to die in the sewers, and people are going to read this article just to find out if Baurus's death is going to have negative consequences, and then they'll see Baurus's quote about Martin : "he sacrificed himself to save us all". I would certainly have preferred Martin's sacrifice to be a surprise. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 78.53.44.10 (talkcontribs) on 22 November 2008.
Everybody has different ideas of what constituted a spoiler. UESP has long had the policy of posting anything because people really should realise that the entire site is one big spoiler. I'm sorry your game was spoiled but I'm afraid we're not going to change the site based on one person's bad experience. –RpehTCE 08:29, 22 November 2008 (EST)
Against the rules or not, I think it's in poor taste and should be removed, or at least clearly marked. There is absolutely no reason that the ending of the entire game should be given away on a non-essential NPC's page. If it was on the "Light the Dragonfires" page with a proper heading, that would be understandable, but since it DOES give away the ending of the game, and most people who hadn't played through wouldn't have prepared to not read it, I personally think it should have a different heading (and I'm prepared to do so, as it doesn't break any rules), because the sole purpose of this Wiki is to inform, and not to spoil others' fun. --KFM —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.200.35.129 (talkcontribs) on 03:57, 15 November 2009.
Fair enough. Let's try it with the new heading, and if the dialogue keeps spoiling the game for people, I will move it to Martin's page. --Krusty 11:18, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] So I have a problem...

Here's the thing, I had a plan to keep Baurus and Jauffre alive by equiping them with powerful equipment. One of the essential equipment I wanted to add was a weapon for them to use that had an Absorb Health ability. I already have a few sigil stones that did that, so I needed to get him a weapon for that. But I wanted to enchant HIS weapon. So I went up to him, went into 100% cham. mode, paralyzed him, and just blasted him with enough disintegration spells to break him weapon. Now I have the weapon, enchanted I've dropped it in front of him, but I can't get him to pick it up! I've tried 2 methods of forcing him into combat, one with a pissed off monster I summoned myself, and the other with attacking Baurus myself, but he keeps using hand-to-hand instead of picking up his Katana! Is there anyway I can get Baurus to take his weapon (will a "Drain Hand-to-Hand" spell?)???? --Zirakseez 16:00, 6 December 2008 (EST)

Nevermind. I got him to pick up his weapon by hitting him with a ranged attack from a good distance. He's got the Katana now! --Zirakseez 16:44, 6 December 2008 (EST)

i know its too late now but using a drain hand to hand spell would do nothing but make the skill weak, it wont somehow disable him--VergilSparda 17:17, 12 September 2009 (UTC)
