Perhaps all canton pages should be moved to sections on this page? -Thrashbasket

Vivec Sections[edit]

I thought about that, but when it comes down to it, Vivec's so huge I'd never be able to describe each area succinctly. Thus, I've decided to make it a sort of 'subregion' and the individual cantons towns in their own right, with their own subsections on waistworks, upperworks, canal levels, etc. I suppose we could make an omnibus Vivec City section and make it pull the individual canton pages into it. Can't hurt to try.

That is a very nice image of the cantons, but what about an image of the different levels? Do we have an image, or even a list, of the different city-levels?

Maps[edit]

What map do you want - either external like that one of Ascadian Isles or internal of all the cantons on the black background on one really BIG map? -Monkeystyle 05:13, 24 May 2007 (EDT)

What I mean is an exterior map of Vivec, showing how the Cantons are arrange, so that someone can find their way in the city. --DrPhoton 08:12, 24 May 2007 (EDT)

There's a decent map at "http://www.imperial-library.info/mwbooks/guide_vivec.shtml" jpeg 60Kb It can be converted to B/W and cropped to show just the City Proper at 256*256 pixels @ 15.6Kb Bruno13069 18:36, 18 June 2007 (EDT)

Done. :) --Monkeystyle 05:52, 15 October 2007 (EDT)

So individual merchants?[edit]

Well Dlarsh, so you think that my tip, that you marked for undo should go there? And couldn't be there players, who would like to see a good hints in one place, instead of browsing individual sections? Consider it once more, the value of those items is really big, and I can say for myself, that I usually don't browse wiki much until there is something exact, that I need to read about. — Unsigned comment by Janmojzis (talkcontribs) on 22 September 2009

The problem is that there are more such items than you realise. Naming them all on pages like this will clutter the article. Only very rare items (like Daedric armor) are worth mentioning. --Timenn-<talk> 14:37, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
Sorry for the delayed response. As Timenn said, naming every item that could possibly be considered valuable would create a lot of clutter on the page. However, the main reason I undid your edit was because this page (and others like it) are there as a brief overview and guide to the city in question and should be used to link to the desired shop(s) if needed, rather than mention everything that one can find within it's walls. Along these same lines, mentioning the inventory of a merchant in another city is unnecessary, as is the mention of which merchant to sell to. If we consolidated every bit of information onto a single page, it would become nearly impossible to sort through all the clutter, which is why we have the search function in the upper left corner of the screen. Dlarsh(Talk,Contribs) 14:54, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
And perhaps you're right. Well then, if I mentored a one particular shop in vivec on the main page, will this be undone? — Unsigned comment by Janmojzis (talkcontribs) on september 24, 2009
Most likely. The links provided on that page allow you to quickly view the inventory of any merchant in the city. Just click the link for the section you're in and you'll be taken to a page with every merchant in the area. While it may seem like a lot of steps to view an inventory, if we begin adding individual shops to the main page, then there would be dozens of links to sort through, so in truth it's far easier this way. Most editors would undo it on the grounds of redundancy because of this. Dlarsh(Talk,Contribs) 21:05, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

new found subquest finishing "Foul Cult Beneath St. Delyn Canton"[edit]

Hi there,

When you click on the statue of Sheogorath the statue starts talking and gives you a quest. I will try to translate it as good as possible since I'm playing the German Version and there are slight differences between the names of things.

In this quest, given by the "Daedra prince of insanity" you are supposed to recover the "fork of goose pimples" A crazy hermit, who lives way north of Tamriel, has it in his possession. After that you are supposed to slay a certain gigantic Netch bull, living on that Island and then return for your reward.

As said, since I only have a German copy of Morrowind and this site is completely in English, I'm not going to be able to take care of this and would ask (anybody possessing the English version) for a helping hand.

Thanks in advance

Mike

I think you've found this quest :-) rpeh •TCE 17:44, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Wow, thats what I call a fast response. I would suppose that that is exactly the quest that I found. I coudn't find it in the depths of this site ... because the site is so tremendous.

Please forgive me for reporting something wrong (or old)

Vivec Canton Template[edit]

It might be just me, but the canton pages don't really have a strong link between them. There is a "box" that lists the cantons on the Vivec main page, but the individual pages seem secluded. Yes, there are links to the main page, but wouldn't it be better if the canton pages could easily link to each other? I was thinking of something along the lines of a footer template maybe, like this:

Maybe other things could be added for the "other" category, but of course this requires discussion. -- Jplatinum16 01:21, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

I think it would be a good idea, but using this color would be better IMO so it matches the rest:
Elliot (talk) 01:34, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
It makes more sense to use a different colour because this is a Vivec-specific template. On that score, I'd use an entirely different colour. Vivec makes me think of purple and gold - but I definitely wouldn't use the same colours as for other cities. rpeh •TCE 02:08, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
The other cities are green. This color matches the header on the pages it would go on. Elliot (talk) 02:30, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
{{Morrowind Settlements}} uses the same color as the cantons' header bar and the second example footer above. It made me look at how we do it with Oblivion and the Imperial City's districts, though, and there we use {{Oblivion Settlements}} (which is the one that's green) on the cities and the districts, with a row in the footer of Imperial City Districts. Couldn't that be done here; just add another row to {{Morrowind Settlements}} listing the cantons and put that template at the bottom of all the cantons' articles? --GKtalk2me 04:26, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
Actually, that idea makes a lot of sense. Gets my vote. rpeh •TCE 18:44, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
So should we have another line for Cantons or do it like Oblivion settlements and have a line entirely for Vivec?
I think I'd have an entirely separate line. Vivec is such a huge part of the game that it seems reasonable. rpeh •TCE 19:35, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
Okay, here is the proposed footer:

I think it looks good. Anyone else? -- Jplatinum16 21:18, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

I like it. --GKtalk2me 01:51, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
Looks good to me! rpeh •TCE 10:08, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

Floating Cantons?[edit]

Can't figure out how to fix it because I'm a loser, but the cantons are not floating like it says in the description. — Unsigned comment by 50.102.12.10 (talk) on 14 June 2011

Indeed, I've changed the text accordingly. For future reference, the intro is transcluded from this page, so you have to edit that one directly. --SerCenKing Talk 14:20, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Bug[edit]

Has anyone else who jumps a lot when they travel encountered a bug where it changes cells from one canton to another as you would hit the ground, and then you find yourself in the water, beneath a canton? Halfstache 03:50, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I mostly travel by high acrobatics, and yes I have encountered this bug. It basically occurs because the jump/movement happens before the cell loads. Therefore, when the cell does load, you find yourself a little bit inside the canton floor, but still without solid ground beneath your feet, hence the fall into water. If you're on a second or third floor you can avoid this by trying to land on one of the lower floors. Although this too depends mostly on luck (not the attribute).
But still, I think this is a fairly insignificant bug that doesn't need to be included in the article. -- kertaw48 20:20, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
It's an irritating, easily recreatable bug that occurs with a more or less common frequency, and since there's apparently a lot of people who move through the world by jumping, I am sure that there are numerous people who encountered it. I would therefore say this bug is significant enough to be mentioned on the article. You should probably reconsider your stance on this matter. - 94.219.234.218 06:18, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
This is a wiki, of course. If you think it matters, you can always add it to the article. I was just giving my opinion, which still remains the same. -- kertaw48 08:43, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Change Tense[edit]

Can I suggest that we change this article to the present tense? I changed the lore article earlier to the past tense, but it seems like this page should be in the present, since in Morrowind Vvardenfell has not yet been destroyed. 99.187.145.4 20:03, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

I wholeheartedly second that. Even though this issue dates back a couple of years, before Keyes's book got published, it's still very, very morbid. Any objections to it? -- kertaw48 21:30, 22 November 2011 (UTC)

Odd Page Names[edit]

The canton pages all have odd names, such as Morrowind:Vivec Foreign. It would make much more sense to rename them as "Foreign Quarter" or "Vivec Foreign Quarter", etc. —Legoless (talk) 20:22, 19 February 2013 (GMT)

I agree to a rename. I'd propose naming them just "Foreign Quarter", "Arena", "St. Delyn", "Hlaalu Canton", Redoran Canton", etc. Only pointing out Canton on the House cantons, because the Houses own more than just what's in Vivec. I am sure JeanceyBOT would have a blast moving pages and fixing links ;) Jo'Sakhartalk to me 20:36, 19 February 2013 (GMT)
Oh, no doubt. :P Jeancey (talk) 20:37, 19 February 2013 (GMT)
