Should this page also contain links to the optional quests along the main quest path e.g. Castle Kvatch and Aid for Bruma? I don't see those links elsewhere except for the previous quest's walkthrough. --Actreal 04:58, 15 May 2006 (EDT)

I'm not sure but I think that "Breaking the Siege of Kvatch" isn't part of the main quest. you can continue the main quest without doing this quest.
:It's an optional sidequest inside the main questline. Just like killing the ash vampires was in Morrowind. I vote the two should be included but marked as optional on the list (indent maybe)--Vook 20:59, 19 May 2006 (EDT)

This page really needs some consistency. Some of the quests have a picture, some don't, some have the overview template, some don't, some have the standard headings, etc., etc. The first quest is the best way to have each page laid out, and the rest should be the same. Anyway, Morrowind quests is the most consistent I know of, and I believe Oblivion needs to conform or at least have some degree of consistency. --Werdnanoslen 18:14, 2 September 2006 (EDT)
When does all of the Oblivion Gates close? Like which quest do they close? --68.81.38.129 16:27, 22 May 2008 (EDT)
Closing oblivion gates
For the quests where you can close oblivion gates, like the one with captain burd and his men, do you have to close the gates to complete the main questline?Azated 00:09, 8 June 2008 (EDT)
: Yes. You have to close the one near Kvatch and the one outside Bruma plus the great gate at the end. You don't have to close any others though. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 04:32, 8 June 2008 (EDT)
finish quest
i figured how 2 finish the main quest without doing it all. i got martin to the cloud Ruler Temple and then i went to the Temple of the One and did the glitch when you go threw the door thats in the ground and when i went outside there were daedric killing guards and martin was coming to the Imperial City. then i took him inside the temple and finished the quest.

story question
*SPOILERS

Perhaps I'm missing something, but one aspect of the main quest doesn't make sense to me. Once you get the Amulet of Kings back and return it to Martin and head to the Imperial City to see Occato(sp?), Mehrunes Dagon is still able to enter Tamriel via the gates that were summoned after you arrive in the city (in other words after the Amulet of Kings was returned to Martin). If he was able to just jump into the city anytime the dragon fires weren't lit, why did the Mythic Dawn bother opening all the other gates? Why not just kill the emperor then go somewhere out of the way and bring Mehrunes Dagon into the world? As Martin suggests, once Dagon is in the world, the Amulet of Kings can do nothing directly to banish him.

So is the rest of the plot totally contrived? Is this explained anywhere in-game?

Please forgive my spelling errors, and sorry for not creating an account.
203.247.14.222 03:04, 6 October 2008 (EDT)

: Martin explains it in his dialogue towards the end: "Lighting the Dragonfires will no longer save us... the barriers that protected us from Oblivion are gone..." The barriers have been weakened so much by all the Oblivion gates that Dagon can simply step into Tamriel. He wouldn't have been able to do that without the Mythic Dawn's help. At least... that's how I understand it. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 03:24, 6 October 2008 (EDT)

:: More relevant dialogue: "But we must hurry! The barriers between our world and Oblivion weaken with every Gate that is opened.", and "If Mehrunes Dagon is able to cross over into our world, even relighting the Dragonfires will not be able to send him back." –Rpeh•T•C•E• 03:34, 6 October 2008 (EDT)
Time Frame
The game starts on Morndas, 27th of Last Seed 3E433. Does anyone know how long it would take to complete the main quest in real life? Im guessing at least a year but even then I'm not sure because of an indefinate answer on how long would it really take to travel from one end of Cyrodiil to another? My guess is at least a month to do so. (Gadianzero 16:12, 3 January 2009 (EST))
:Even more than that. Cyrodiil is a huge province. Especially since "in real life" the Champion would have to secure audiences with each count, possibly waiting for a decision, Martin would likely require time to decipher the Mysterium Xarxes, and Occato would need to contact the Elder Council in order to reach decision, all during wartime.Temple-Zero 16:47, 3 January 2009 (EST)

Attack on Fort Sutch
Why is the Attack on Fort Sutch listed here, it has no bearing on the main Quest (granted I haven't completed it) But shouldn't it just be in the non-journal Quests? Spriggs37
: The Attack on Fort Sutch "quest" only appears after the Dagon Shrine quest, which is part of the MQ. That means it's related to the MQ even if not part of it - and the "optional" tag on the link makes that pretty clear. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 04:57, 11 January 2009 (EST)
Help from Guilds and Elder Council
In the quest info for "Aid for Bruma", it mentions getting help from the Elder Council and/or the Guilds. Is there a direct way to do this or is it done in accordance w/ talking to a Count or Countess?? In other words, do you have to literally ask someone from the guilds or the council for help or is it all done thru the Counts/Countesses???
