Alchemy Apparatus List

The following is a list of all the alchemic apparatus used to help make potions.

• Mortar and Pestles are the only required instrument and determine the initial potion strength.
• Alembics decrease the magnitude and duration of all negative ingrediant effects.
• Retorts increase the magnitude and duration of all positive ingrediant effects.
• Calcinators increase the magnitude and duration of all ingrediant effects.
• A high object Quality indicates a better item.
• The item Count in the below list gives the approximate number of that item in the game not including those sold by some merchants (such as the Secret Grandmaster apparati).
• The Locations for some of the apparati are not exhaustive.

Creating Super Potions
11 December 2002

A great tip to creating some impossibly strong potions.

1. To maximize the benefit to your character, take Alchemy as a primary skill.
2. Find people who sell Ash Yam (or find the plant). Collect as much as you can carry or afford. Make sure you keep a Mortar and Pestle.
3. Now find someone who sells Netch Leather and buy as much as you can afford. If this person buys potions, sell everything you can until you have as much Netch Leather as you have Ash Yam. Make sure you have a Mortar and Pestle. You can go over your encumberance rate as you will not be moving for the rest of this trick. Substitution of Bloat for either Ash Yam or Netch Leather is ok.
4. Regardless of your Alchemy level, start mixing Netch Leather and Ash Yam. They will make a Fortify Intelligence Potion. Make about 3 and then drink them. Repeat making 3 and drinking 3 until you have no more netch leather or ash yam and only 2 Fortify Intelligence Potions. (Feel free to sell some off along the way).
5. Explanation: Alchemy skill improves your Intelligence, and it's success/fail rate is based on Intelligence (changed from Willpower?), but the quality of the potions you make is based on your Intelligence. Anything you can do to boost your Int will increase the power of any successfully made potions, in this case creating a loop of increasing Intelligence. Plus, highre power potions sell for more money, so selling some off should more than net back your losses, and it gives you an excuse to practice Mercantile by increasing the sale value by 1 gold and decreasing the cost of the components by 1 gold. (It only takes one Gold to in the proper direction to practice this skill no matter what level it's at).
6. Why not make Alchemy a primary skill? Because you'll still be using this trick well into your 60th level (I know I am, and I'm level 75+).
7. This effect transfers to other potions made using Alchemy also. So by the time it's all said and done, you could make a Fortify Strength potion for 512000 pts for 3250000 seconds. Unfortunetly, that is not such a good idea. Sure you can kill anything in the game in one hit, but your weapon will break every single time. Also, to win the game, you have to NOT kill the Heart of Ashkan (or whatever it's called) in one hit (or even 2, 3, 4, or 5 - it takes all 6 hits, 1 with the hammer and 5 with the sword, to do it right). Same with Levitate, Light, Fortify Speed, etc. Just watch what you're doping with it. I suggest making Detect Key, Detect Enchantment, Detect Animal, Feather, all the resists, breath water, all the restores, and Night Eye).

Good Fighter Potion

This is a good potion for barbarians/fighters and other people that don't use magic. They could make a potion with:

1. Void Salts
2. Vampire Dust
3. Shalk Resin
4. Dreugh Wax

1. Spell absorption 7 pts for 12 seconds
2. Fortify Strength 33 pts for 92 seconds
3. Fortify health 33 pts for 92 seconds
