anyone have any idea whats wrong with the BG music? i got the anthology set, and arena, daggerfall, and skyrim sound great. oblivion sounded great, until a rat came up, and it made the sound of morrowind when it squeeked... but the BG music was atleast intact.

but why does MW sound so bad?

i wouldn't think this would be a drivers issue, because all the other games work??? any help?

oh, it appears oblivion crashes after like 10 minutes of play. then has to be reset all over again... no mods, just vanilla.

I'll go with the a simple question first - Have you reinstalled Morrowind to see if it was merely a problem with the original installation?

If you've done that then you could always try and install the Morrowind Overhaul since it messes with the sound I think... worth a shot? doesn't take long to apply it. You could also try the code patch and unofficial patch to see if that does anything.

I've really no idea why it would do this though, I've never actually heard of a problem like it... most sound issues are either it being too loud at parts(fixed by the code patch I think) or it not working at all(comes up with boxes saying 'File not found' or some-such. I have read that Morrowind doesn't like to work properly on windows 8 if you don't move the game folder out of 'program files'... try copying it to C: /games or anywhere else.

I originally installed it off the cd, and added some mods and patches, and run it and it sounded awful. so I just turned off the music and played it for about an hour.

I may uninstall it, and load it from the disc again and try opening it as admin, see if that does anything... So depressing. The greatest game of all time, and I can't even jam the soundtrack.

I feel for you, it's actually my favourite soundtrack from any game.

I did some random digging around and was wondering if your music files are being run with windows media player as default? if not you can change this by going into the music folder(within the installation folder) and right clicking the files... then click 'open with' and find Windows media player through the lists. Make sure to click 'Always use the selected program' as well. - I've no Idea if this is the case, but supposedly music can get messed up through other programs.

You could also perhaps try updating your drivers if need be? not all games work the same, especially the old ones. That's not something I know much about though admittedly.

anyone else have any ideas? i just got an HDMI monitor, and tried tunning the audio from the monitor output... still sounds the same :-/

and i did go and download the most current sound driver online, and update. still nothing.

ok, so i fixed the problem. i set up a new partition, and installed windows 7, then put all my elder scrolls games on that. problems i had with win 8.1:
arena - would only play in windowed mode
daggerfall - would only play in windowed mode
morrowind - bg music would not work. at all
oblivion - game crashed quite randomly
skyrim - no problems at all

on windows 7, all 5 games work, no problems at all.
