Did I stutter?

Short story:
I said something when I was younger, got smacked, learned not to run my mouth so much.

I think I got a slight hit on the back of my leg once and it was more the fear of being punished that made me behave. My parents did a great job with raising me and my sister, had some typical kid tantrums but my parents used different methods rather than hitting.
When I was about seven, I wanted a chocolate bar from a shop when walking back from school with my mum but wasn't allowed. I wouldn't move so after about five minutes my mum just left me dragging my sister with her. Of course I know now she just waited around the corner but I was in tears because of the shock and thought she had left me for good. A few minutes later she came back and dragged me home and of course I behaved like an angel for the rest of the week.

I think if the child really acting out then a slight smack on the thigh should be fine, but it shouldn't be the only solution. I can think of times where I deserved a smack but a talking-to by a red-faced parent was usually enough.

Spanking seems fine to me IF you're doing it properly. If you do it to discipline your kid and make them remember what they did wrong, then I can't see why any mental damage would arise, unless you hit them too hard. Enough for them to remember should be fine, IMO, but if they have much pain afterwards you may have gone too far. Also, spanking is probably the oldest form of discipline, and seems to have worked so far. It's spoken of in the Bible, I believe.
Spanking out of rage is stupid, but I've seen it happen a lot. That could probably mess up your kid.

If I have a kid/kids, which I hope not to, I'm not sure if I'll spank them. There are other forms of discipline to employ.

Are men and women spanked at work when they don't follow the rules of the business? No. If you don't harm adult buttoxes for doing something wrong, don't harm a child. Instead of "if I do this I will feel pain," the child should think something like "if I do this I can't play my Mario games for two weeks."

That's a silly argument to make, considering that spanking only works on little children.

Adults have bills to worry about.

Yes, adults do get spanked... it is called being fired.

Unfortunatly, you cannot fire your children... or set them on fire either.

Plus, it is a good Ninja evasion techique, as it is harder for them to catch you (hold on) when you are on fire.

Only if you do not build up a tollerance for it.

This is why I would feed them poisons as well.

I really hope you are joking. Getting fired and paying bills cause no physical pain. Try to imagine your boss hitting your ass with a a paddle because you weren't working efficiently.

...actually, I have used pain as a corrective action quite a bit at work.

In the Army

I think chick flicks, Barbara Streisand movies and movies including Sarah Jessica Parker would be the ultimate torment. Hell, the children would learn from that... or perhaps not the girls, hmm, I am not touching sexuality on this one, but I know that I would rather die than go through the afore mentioned form of torment/punishment.
