Hello everybody,

because of a weird bug in my Oblivion install, the difficulty level gets reset at zero each time I launch the game. Since I was unable to fix this, whether by tweaking inis or using FastExit or ..., I figured that it would be simple to write a mod that simply sets the difficulty to 0.5 each time I load the game.

However, I (well, Google) was unable to find much still-extant documentation about Oblivion script writing. Therefore, there are several (many) questions I am still unable to answer:
- how to make my script load on game start? (I figured that I could attach it to some zero-weight item, but maybe with OBSE there is a simpler way since some OBSE mods do not use this?)
- is there really no simpler way to make it load only once than to use a flag variable (and thus add some more dead weight to the Oblivion main loop) ?
- and last but not least, is there a way to set the game difficulty via script?

(The one question I was able to answer is: how to read the desired difficulty level in a .ini file - looking at the MapMarkerOverhaul source code solved this for me).

Thanks for any help!
